He was good but not great.

OU was becoming predictable... since Lincoln has been here ive never put OU in the great category, the offense was always fun but defense has been lacking at OU for a long damn time.
My thoughts on this is Lincoln knew OU would struggle in the SEC for the first 3 to 4 years and he knew it would drag his NFL stock down so he bailed... which is why he didn't take the LSU gig.

Going forward they need to focus on a defensive minded coach with a slam dunk OC hire. the money is there to dip into NFL coaches so why not shop... my hope is Vance Joseph with the Arizona cards.

He’s a great recruiter and good OC, IMO

He's still learning but he will have to make some changes to get to the next level. I remember Riley 1 st RRR and the look on Bob Stoops face when they asked about only running the ball 12 times, with Mixon and Perinne. Bob had a long talk and Riley went away from the Leach offense. But also Lincoln was handcuffed coming in. He was stuck with Mike Stoops and it took 18 months to finally get rid of him.

I know Lincoln will take most of the coaching staff but can he take players? Or would that set him up for lawsuits??

"Great" is a subjective term. His .846 winning percentage at OU is very impressive. Let's see what the next guy is able to post.

.846 Lincoln Riley (55-10) won conference 80% of the time, won NC 0% of the time
.837 Barry Switzer (157-29-4) won conference 75% of the time, won NC 19% of the time
.826 Bud Wilkinson (145-29-4) won conference 82% of the time, won NC 18% of the time
.797 Bob Stoops (190-48) won conference 56% of the time, won NC 6% of the time

Which ones would he want? He is already taking future recruits. I doubt he would want any of them that are currently on the team but likely there are a few if they would fill his needs on the roster.

LR was handed a ready made championship roster and managed to hold it together for 5 years....not enough to be considered on the of great coaches.

With the new one time transfer rule, he can take whoever is willing to go.

Keep that in mind when the next man up is grinding it out to go 7-5, and fighting with Arkansas and Mississippi State to see who gets that SEC slot in the Music City Bowl.

Not sure if Lincoln Riley could have won more than 6 games in a season in the SEC. Only way he would have is if he was willing to change.

Its going to be determined by who that next man up is don’t you think? Its quite possible Joe C finds the next Bob Stoops. At that time he was a blessing and inherited a team that just wasn’t very good under Blake. I believe Joe C will find the right man but we just may have to be patient for a year or two.
