What do you guys think? Does Watson have a chance at stealing the hardware Saturday? Are the talking heads just trying to keep everyone tuned in or did the last 3 games really open up the Heisman race? I don't even want to think about Peppers, but his inclusion in the finals is concerning.

If they show just passing yards Watson looks better but once you add touchdowns and rushing yards it's not close. And a lot of the ballets are already in. IMO their just trying to hype it up.

This goes to the best player in the nation or best player on undefeated team argument.

IMO, it should always go to the best player in the nation regardless of team performance. I would be very shocked if Lamar doesn't bring it home.

I can see Watson getting it more as a career achievement award. He's been on the scene longer, whereas Lamar is the new guy who could very well win it next year. Having said that, there aren't many players who have produced the numbers Lamar has. I think the number is two. Both won the Heisman.

I don't think the media wants LJ to actually win it because they'll say look at the Houston game and the INT's he threw against UK.

BUT with all of that saying, I really think he's winning the award period. He's the most EXCITING player to watch when he's on the field and 51 TD's total doesn't hurt his case in the least.

I know what you mean. But even with the UK game Watson still has more INTs. Watson also has more total turnovers.

Anyone know a good source for player time on the field? Would love to see points & yards on a per minute basis.

And as previously mentioned, Watson has hundreds of passing yds from that glorified hand off that Clemson uses a bunch.

Can't really use the interception angle if the were to select Watson since he threw more interceptions.

Can't imagine anybody putting Lamar lower than 2nd on a ballot. So even if he doesn't have more first place votes (which he should), I still think he's likely to win. Well deserved, IMO.

I think Jackson will win. But the fact that five were invited is interesting. The Heisman Trust has an embarrassment rule so the fifth place is a lot closer to the winner than last year when only three were invited.

Or it was close from #2 through 5...No matter what the talking heads say it would be a huge upset if Jackson doesn't win the award.

He 1/30 odds in Las Vegas to win the Heisman and now Vegas isn't even taking bets. That should tell you all you need to know.

You may be correct about 2 through 5. Since I am not part of the Heisman Trust I don't know the parameters of the no embarrassment rule. But, for me personally, I would have a problem with that. I interpret an invite to the ceremony as implicitly saying "you are in the hunt". If first place has 50% of the vote and 2nd place has 20% then on down from there, that is not "in the hunt". Maybe some think that would be fine. But I personally would have a problem with it.

Frankly, I am not a fan of the award anyway. They try to sell us on the award being the best player in the country. BS! There is no way that 80% of the time the "best player" is a QB; 15% of the time it is an RB; 4.99% of the time it is a WR and once and only once in history it is a defensive player. Derrick Henry was not even the best RB in the country last year, let alone the best player. It is a purely hype award. So whoever wins, good on them. Congratulations. I am sure by Sunday night or Monday sometime I'll find out who won.
