Remember the time when the Heisman winner didn't have to play for one of the top teams in the country? Like 1969, for example. Every time I hear some one say "losing to XYZ basically eliminates so and so" I just shake my head.
2003 jumps into my mind - Larry Fitzgerald.
I know this will be heresy on this board, but I genuinely thought he got ripped off in the Heisman voting that year. Jason White benefited from an awesome system and insane playmakers. Fitzgerald had nothing at Pitt. I never watched Pitt games before or after Fitzgerald, but in 2002 and 2003 I watched. And it wasn't just the crazy stats that Larry was putting up, it was the way he was making catches. Their QB was Rod freaking Rutherford who was apparently color blind, because it never looked like he was throwing to his own players, but it didn't matter if Larry didn't have the favorable positioning. If he could get a finger on it, his hands were velcro. Their goal line offense was lob it up to FItzgerald in triple coverage and watch him come down with it.
It's no surprise to me that he's a 9 time Pro Bowler and 5th all time in NFL yds/game, also the youngest receiver to ever hit 11,000 yds.
