Help Needed--1992 Duke Men's Basketball Team

I created the 1982 North Carolina Tar Heel men's basketball starting five on a video game, and filled the bench with UNC players from the 70s-90s.

I'm now looking to do the same with Duke's 1992 team, but I need help because many of the Blue Devils from the past are not represented in the game (NBA 2K13).

Christian Laettner appears on the game (1992 Dream Team) as well as Grant Hill (L.A. Clippers), but this is where I need help: which NBA player had/has a similar style of game as Thomas Hill, Bobby Hurley, and Antonio Lang (I think those were the other starters)? For instance, if Thomas Hill had a similar game to a young Scottie Pippen, I'll put Pippen on the created Duke team, then change his face to look like Hill's if that makes sense.

I'm thinking Hurley's game would be similar to the 1990 Mark Price or 1998 John Stockton that is on the game, but I have no idea about Hill and Lang. Any help would be much appreciated, and you can give suggestions to historical players (like Price and Stockton) or "current" players that are probably still on a game that was released in 2012.

Thank you.

For Antonio....I don't know....maybe a Taj Gibson? That's off the top of my head.

Pippen is pretty aggressive for Thomas. What about a Shane Battier? Probably not the perfect comparison but some similarities in their game.

I didn't literally mean Pippen for Lang--just giving an example. But since I don't really know how Hill and Lang played, I'll give the Gibson and Battier suggestions a go. And what about Hurley? I did literally mean Mark Price or John Stockton for him--any suggestions?

Thanks again.

This isn't some sneaky, underhanded "Duke didn't have any NBA players until this year" shot is it? Sounds like it.

Either way, I'll play along.

Stockton for Hurley
Aaron Gordon for Lang (I know the way they have him rated and Lang was an athletic rebounder without much offense)
Rodney Hood for Thomas Hill (lefty shooter who has good defensive stats, Rodney is taller and a much better driver than Thomas though).

Oh my God--really? I don't believe you would have said that if my user name didn't have "Carolina" in it, so assume and stereotype away. But I'll play along with that: one, if the intent behind this thread is a shot, this has to be one of the all time lamest shots in the history of lame shots. Two, why would I insinuate "Duke didn't have any NBA players until THIS year" when I stated the game is for NBA 2K13--a game released in 2012. And third, haven't I said some form of "thanks" or "thank you" in every post (except for this one)?

It's really sad that you and others just assume that posters from other schools are up to "sneaky, underhanded" shenanigans. I could have come up with something WAY better than what I'm talking about if that was the case. I'm just trying to replicate a Duke represented team, just like I did for UNC, which by the way didn't have Jimmy Black nor Matt Doherty on it.

That's because most of the time they are up to " sneaky, underhanded" shenanigans and in due time we will know what your intent is. So far you follow the pattern so "lighten up Francis." OFC

No need for me to "calm down"; just because I type a response doesn't mean I'm excited--it just means I...typed a response; no profanity, no insults, no nothing.

My reaction is indeed all you need to know about me: a Carolina fan who RESPECTFULLY asked for help on something dealing with Duke. So I thought this forum would be a good place for help, and that's why I THANKED dukiejay. Some of you just can't see nor admit that I come in peace because you see the "Carolina" in my username. Sorry that my lack of anger may have disappointed some of you, and you may be looking for negative jabs that just aren't there.

And in due time you will know what my intent is, but that due time could be now if you can accept the fact that all Carolina fans aren't up to no good. If you can refrain from a negative response, I would love to link a copy of my work to you. But if you're not into gaming, it's all good--I could provide pictures because that's what I always do on those forums anyway.

As a matter of fact, I created a 10 team college hoops file a couple of years ago with teams comprised of "current" players for NBA 2K14 that was referred to as "one of the best college basketball mods for PS3" on Operation Sports. The good news is I can try to link that page here so that you can see my previous work, but some of you will have to taste a piece of humble pie when you see I've created a Duke team before (again, with current players) and that I have no ill will. If you're brave enough to swallow your pride, I'll be happy enough to see if I can link that page.

Again, I don't see how I could be up to something no good by asking you for recommendations on three players. It's THREE players. If I wanted to start something, it definitely wouldn't be over three players in a video game lol.

Even though it seems like you may have taken the jump-on-me-side, too, thanks again dukiejay for at least helping me with suggestions. That's all I need in the first place. If I can't get anymore good suggestions, I'll roll with the ones you gave me. Thanks again.

And dukehokie: I re-read my first post to see how anyone could think I was up to something, and I still can't see it. But I re-read your first post as well, and if you are aware of how they have Gordon rated in the game, maybe you're familiar with the 2K13 and/or 14. Thus as I offered, I can try to send you a link or some pics of the work I've done before to further prove what I'm trying to. Again, you don't have to be into gaming--the link would be to a page describing my work on a previous college basketball roster.

Well go for it then. You just seem to be a little sensitive. That's the way most of the unc posters that come over here are. We've seen I come in peace many times over. Most of us here are banned from thr and we've never used profanity or even posted there. Take about a chilly reception it don't get much colder than that when you don't even post on that board. So once again go for it if you please and as you indicated time will tell . One thing that might help you is you are not entitled here like you are at thr. That's part of the issue is several unc supporters feel they are entitled to post certain things here but Duke fans aren't entitled to post things similar at thr. So quit whining on the reaction you feel you may be getting and you are a guest here. It's not your home. You will be treated as a guest with respect here if you act like one. It's up to you. Please think it out. Just is so you know your 3rd post on your thread is where you became whiny and defensive. You were doing pretty good until then. You should have followed the first two post pattern. On your reply please don't put that thr,unc spin on it. Just go on and make your post. OFC

Not sensitive--I'm just a little old school: I treat people how I want to be treated. When I make a harmless post (again, ignore the "Carolina" and just read the first post itself) and I get accused of something, it's not being "sensitive" or "whiny" if I make a reply. It's just standing up for myself, and whether you like it or not, I did it respectfully.

I've been a member of the Carolina forum since 2007, and believe me guys--if I wanted to start something, why would I start something now, or over something I'm trying to do with a video game? That just sounds ridiculous. I don't want to start anything with anyone over here, but is it really me being sensitive? Is it some of you being sensitive because of what "other" Carolina posters have said or that their mods banned some of you?

Bottom line is this guys: I can't help what other Carolina people have done to you, but you CAN help me like dukiejay first did. If you want to help me, then great: the more ideas and suggestions I get the better, and I can work with that. But if you don't want to help me, then just don't help me--but the accusations are a little uncalled for if you think about it. No, I'm not entitled to anything over here--that's why if I get no more suggestions, I can just roll with the ones I have--I've said that before. But if you don't want to help, just don't help, but the shots aren't really necessary.

You asked me to think about it, and I did before replying; I'm just asking the same of you. I'm just one of those guys who will treat you the same on the street as I would on a message board, and if you asked me to give you a recommendation on Jimmy Black and Matt Doherty, I'd help you out without thinking twice. I'm not entitled to the same, but I'd just appreciate it.

I'd like to get back on track if that's okay with you guys. So anymore suggestions? Thank you.

Well get back on the track then and stop the spin. Just post and see where it ends up. Just post. OFC

Yeah...that's what I meant by "I'd like to get back on track if that's okay with you guys. So anymore suggestions? Thank you."

But never mind guys. I didn't get off track, there is no spin, but you just can't acknowledge that. Absolutely no spin. I did what you said--I posted, and now I see where it is ending up. It's ending up with no more suggestions--just...non suggestions. So let's just end it here.

Time has told for sure. Thanks once again dukiejay; I'll use the suggestions you gave and go from there! If anyone wants to check it out, ask for my username on Operation Sports. Like I said, I also have a finished roster with either the 2011 or 2012 Duke starters and the bench is filled with other Blue Devils already in the game, with 9 other college teams.

Have a good evening guys. Check it out if you want...

I loaded my old 2K14 roster just to check something out, and here is what I found:

UNC's created team and Duke's created team both have the same offensive and defensive team rating (even though it wasn't like that in real life). So if you have that game, don't worry...there is no "thr spin" or any other kind of spin ("spin" might be rating UNC higher than Duke on both). I didn't touch the ratings; I just like creating college teams since 2K hasn't since 2K8.

But here is a potential problem: in looking at 2K14 (don't have 2K13 in right now), Gibson and Battier are both rated in the low 70s. Are there any other suggestions?

This is what I mean, and I mean no spin when I say this: some guys are really good in college but they don't stand out in the NBA. Let's take Raymond Felton for instance: he's rated 78 on 2K14, but if I was going to make a college version of him, I would rate him higher (see--I used a Tar Heel example that I would rate lower). So, are there any other suggestions for Lang and Hill? Maybe almost an all-star-esque comparison? Don't worry if others would think they are overrated; I think my example with Hurley is what I'm going to go with--for a college roster, I'm going to give him the skills of a highly rated Mark Price or John Stockton.

Just player suggestions please, if you don't mind; just player suggestions. Not entitled to 'em--just asking for 'em. I might get to work on it this weekend.

Thanks to anyone.
