Help Wanted: Graduate Transfer PG

With Brown's departure, and Collins seemingly knowing it for a while, I hope the coaching staff has some point guard targets in the grad transfer market. Nothing else makes sense -- it's mostly too late to grab an uncommitted senior, NU has a senior and junior at center and enough wings to go around. But if Lathon takes more time to develop than expected, or if he/Ash go down with an injury, NU is SOL at point (lead) guard.

Anyone who has rock-solid handles and passable court vision and 3-point shot is good enough for me. Maybe from the Ivy League, since they don't allow more than four years?

Larry Austin Jr. is grad transferring from Vandy. He's not much of a shooter but can penetrate off the dribble and takes care of the ball.

I agree a solid point guard should be the priority, but I wouldn't be opposed to a solid big man either.

The only type of player who will have me screaming is a 'tweener who shoots 34%+ from three during a good game. The Cats have enough of those guys.

Yep, it would be another situation like Turner was this year. Practicing but unable to play. I’d take Smith, for sure, but the scary-thin PG depth would still be an issue.

Vandy guy sounds intriguing.

I disagree with the comment that we need a high-volume shooter with Brown and Lindsey gone. I look forward to what I hope is a much more balanced, team-oriented offense with Law and Falzon taking 3s off screens, Pardon getting lots of touches and Lathon slashing to the basket.

For the record, I didn't say that we need one or two high volume shooters, just that we have an opening or two for them. As you can guess, there was a bit of sarcasm intended.

Wow. Keeping the list of potential transfers has become an industry in itself, hasn't it?

Interesting to read of the transfer intent of a Northwestern guard, one whose name isn't Brown.

It looks like Aaron Calixte from Maine (same conference as powerhouse UMBC) is the best grad transfer PG currently available, though I’m sure that list will grow.

Wow, who hasn't he heard from?

Scored 27 against the Sweet 16 bound Ramblers. Would be VERY happy to have him as a Lindsey replacement, but, again, doesn't help with the PG depth problem.

Who knows. I think they have had a while to think about this. Who knows it could be a shooter from the Balkins or a rebounder from the Baltic States.

The 'Cats could use a PG (even if Lathon impresses) or at least someone w/ a decent handle, but man, someone like Taylor would go a long way in solving those prolonged dry spells on O and struggles when the clock is running out.

Need a guy who can both create his own shot and is a high % shooter.

Need a grad transfer. Will need another body next season with questions around Rap and Aaron, plus Ash and Law coming off surgeries.

Brady Ellingson is transferring from Iowa and will be a grad transfer immediately eligible. Not much of a ball handler but quite a good 3-point shooter. Wouldn’t be my first choice but wouldn’t be the worst skillset to have coming off the bench.

Another (better) option might be Joseph Chartouny, a 6’3” guard from Fordham who has averaged double figures in each of his three seasons. Also 3.3 steals per game. Pretty sure he’s a grad transfer, so figures to be popular.

yes, you need to sit out a year like all other transfers but don't think you lose a year of eligibility or are ineligible for schlorship any longer. Could be wrong.

You are talking a grad transfer. These guys have a lot of playing experience and have likely grown since they came out of HS. A 5th year with plenty of playing experience would be a reasonable addition and more help than a raw Frosh that we could get at this point, especially since it balances out classes and only takes up a scholly for one year
