Here's a wild idea. PSU fielding a second football program, a lower division program.

If permitted by the NCAA (weaklings anyway), a school could field a totally separate lower division football program. No interactions with the coaches and players from the FBS program. At PSU we can expand the field hockey stadium next to the BJC to seat about 15-20K. Play on Saturdays when there is no game at Beaver Stadium and on Friday nights when there is. Play a schedule of Pennsylvania schools that we used to play at the beginning of our history. Bucknell, Penn, Lehigh, Gettysburg, Lafayette, etc. Have VERY modest ticket and concession prices. NO canned music, just the Blue Band and the Lion. Pure amateur football.

Not allowed (if you're talking about an NCAA team that's playing those schools)...and even if it was, I honestly don't see how/why it would be successful.

Why? For some reason I do enjoy watching div-3 teams play. Players seem to be more connected to the school instead of prepping for the NFL, are usually playing for the school they wanted to attend. For some reason, I just enjoy it.

Back when my daughter was at ND, their interhall (intramural ... by dorm) men's football was full contact ... pads, tackling, etc ... used to play on Sundays (university championship was in the stadium). When I flew out to watch games, I usually stayed til Sunday night so I could watch those games ... quite entertaining.

I get that, I used to love watching D-2 back when I lived in PA, but that doesnā€™t mean PSU has to start a D-3 program. Anyone can choose an already existing program and start following them if they want the old school vibe of college football.

A person can buy season tickets to their nearest PSAC team. I'm sure they'd love the support.

Sounds like sprint football where players must weigh under 178 lbs. Weird cutoff number. Anyway, Mansfield U. of PA fields a sprint team, as do UPenn, Army, Navy, and a few others. It's not an NCAA sponsored sport though.

Simply put...why would they want to lose money on something?
Watch some other local colleges that play a lower level.

Many, many years ago, PSU did have JV football that played a relatively local schedule.

I would just like to see them treat the varsity football team the way college football should be treated. No paying players. No recruiting transfer kids. Kids must go to class and work toward graduating. Success with honor.
