Ed!! Havent talked to him for a few years. I've had some really good conversations with Ed about WVU football, and the Rich Rod debacle. There's more than meets the eye. But he aint the answer lol.

Ed was old school, very fiscally conservative and not at all ready to be in the middle of two ego's like Rich Rod and Joe Manchin. He loves WVU though big time, and is one of the nicest dudes ever. He hired the coach who got us the closest to winning a natty champ since the Major Harris years, so my hats off to Ed. Rich was a bit of a visionary though, and wanted big facility upgrades and raises for his coaches because he was thinking ahead, and was in the right to do it. However, thats where it gets grey. At one point, it wouldve been enough to keep Rich Rod here, to give his coaches raises, so its said. But the real underlying issue behind the scenes was Joe Manchin, and his quickly deteriorating relationship with RR. There were some big disagreements, and in the end, Joe tried to use his political weight to have a say and mettle in WVU sports, and RR wasnt going to have it. Ed was too old to even deal with two ego's like that. Joe basically forced them both out indirectly being an ******* politician. This isnt some twitter story or internet rumor, this comes straight from the horses mouth who was part of it all. There was a lot more than meets the eyes with the whole RR story. It wasnt only the huge raise he was about to get at Michigan. He was escaping the WV good ol boy network, corrupt ******** that is Joe Manchin. Believe it or not....

RR burned some bridges on the way out and tried to duck his buyout. Beilein left in a more professional manner and negotiated his buyout. Still, RR presided over the best years of WVU FB ever. Credit him for that but don’t think he can rebuild those burnt bridges.
