Hidden benefit of Pardon's injury

Benson will get valuable experience too, which will only benefit the team in the long run. He wasn't red shirting any way. The loss of Pardon obviously outweighs any benefit, but there's always a silver lining and Benson's experience is it in this case.
From the minute that I saw Benson, he is not afraid to make a move and try to shoot. He appeared to have good form from the free throw line. And he is more athletic than Olah was as a freshman. I think the way to look at it is that NU will benefit offensively, because Skelly is a more skilled offensive player than Pardon. Skelly is a better passer and shooter. Our interior defense will suffer without Pardon in the game. Our wing players and forwards (Law, Lumpkin, Taphorn and Lindsey) will have to help out on the boards more. Overall, I think we can get by with a nine-player rotation with Brown, Taphorn, Benson and Ash off the bench. In prior years our no. 6-9 players were not close to a top 150 player like Benson with 7 Big 10 offers. Or like Ash who was also a top 150 player who played on an Illinois high school championship team. Or like Brown who is his state's all-time leading point scorer.

Is NU really a 15 point favorite vs. De Paul? Maybe I read it wrong this AM but that seems a bit inflated, especially with Benson out.

Don't believe DePaul has a player over 6-7 who has played this year. Thus, Pardon's absence will presumably not hurt us as much. LolRutgers beat DePaul fairy easily, hence the spread.
I don't know how we can assume losing Pardon won't hurt. He is the leading rebounder and shot blocker. He will be missed. Yes, NU should beat DePaul without him, but they will miss Dererk's contributions.
Suppose we play more zone against tough competition? The loss of Pardon hurts more defensively, plus we are down to 9 schollie players.
Tonight, vs lowly Depaul, we had almost half of them foul out. With a zone D, in theory, you can clog the middle causing problems for opponents bigs. You should also foul less. You give up boards and threes.
I would think we have develop some strength for rebounding so that sacrifice is huge. Maybe a little more pressing might help counter the three.
Anywho, just an abstract thought like looking for PT for AA while sitting at a bar after watching the game. Ok, NJ, time to attack.
We had 2 out of 9 players foul out, and it was fairly meaningless even when they did as this game was over halfway through the first half. Hard to tell what we need to work on without Pardon,imo, since DePaul was so terrible and this was a glorified practice.
And another three had four fouls and had to play carefully. I hope something was gleaned from the experience.
Was commenting to my friend how frustrated I would be if I were playing yesterday. Periods where they let a ton of contact go, then periods of extremely ticky tack calls. At one point, Collinseven even seemed pissed about a call that went against DePaul (though he could have just thought it was going to go against NU).
Or the horse has been beaten into tiny particles too small for the naked eye to see, with the odor completely gone.
