I watched the south Sioux vs Sioux City north game last night. Sioux City North lined up for a 52 yard field goal. I thought it was a joke but the kid just missed it. He later made a shorter one but then he put his kick off 70 yards through the uprights. He also did it again on the next kick off. I don’t know his name but he was only a junior. Someone should get this kid to a Husker game.

Now why would we want to have a kicker that can kick it to the endzone??

It's better to kick it and have it returned past the 25 yd line, or even better yet, shank one of bounds every now and then!

Get with the program man! 😉

I’ve never seen the kicker you’re talking about, but just for some perspective on high school kickers that I watched numerous times. Cole Frahm walked on at NU in 2018 and kicked at Burke. He had 70 straight kickoffs that went into the end zone. He struggled at NU. I forgot the other walk-on who kicked at Lincoln Southwest. He could kick 50 yarders all day in high school but again failed at NU. High School is completely different than D1.

Posts are wider in high school for sure. If guys have strong legs, that is a good starting point though.

High School kickers get to Kick FGs off a flat tee vs off the ground...it does make a difference.

I kicked HS. Was ok but kicking off the ground is a different animal. I would guess any HS kicker with the leg you’re talking about is already doing some work w/o a tee

Well the tee on a kickoff is the same. So kicking 70 yard touchbacks shouldn’t change much from high school to college

High school allows a 2 inch tee on kickoffs, college/NFL is 1 inch.
If a kid is kicking it between the uprights from 60, a one inch difference in tee size isn’t stopping him from consistently reaching the end zone in college from 65.

most of the difference between college and high school kickers on kick offs is due to expectations on hang time and directional kicking. Just getting it to the endzone isn't normally enough in college.

What? Again if you are kicking between uprights from the 40 yard line, you should have no problem kicking it deep enough in the end zone that it won’t get returned.

Probably but how often is the guy able to do it. I hit a 5 wood out of heavy rough 260 yards....once. I haven't seen any mention of the height of the kicks, how often it happens or how often he keeps it in bounds. I've seen high schoolers whack kicks out of the back of the endzone too but it was one out of 10. Our kicking game has been a disgrace but hopefully that is fixed this year.
