Anybody used any of the vast array of "DIY Home Security" systems that are available? Adobe, Scout, Canary, etc. all have pros and cons it seems...

If anyone has used any of them, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how well they work...

Footnote: I'm a poor and don't want to pay for a monthly monitoring service such as ADT and similar systems...

My home defense. Break in and they lick your face off and beg for treats until you give up and leave.

Isn't ADT about $400-$500 a year? Are you that poor? You may need to bring this question up in the Rafters. Sorry.

May try XFINITY or Meatspin.

ok, here i will help. just go out at night and steal an ADT sign from some house that has it and place it in front of yours. but not a house that is close by. burglars won't know for sure. and since your poor, poor people steal stuff all the time. so you are probably good at it and don't even know it.

We have scout. It's got decent features. Both the app and web interface tell you any activity on any of the monitors and battery level. You can customize it pretty much any way you want. You get email alerts and unlimited free batteries for your monitors. That being said, the batteries die and have to be replaced about every other month which can become a pain.

I had ADT and was happy with it, but the 60.00 a month wasn't doable anymore. Then I switch to Vivint, happy with it as well, but money is becoming an issue again. I had looked into some of the cheaper stuff, but they are all wireless based, and that's not a reliable or safe option. The advantage the big services have is they all run on cellular, that's not a cable that can be cut. With all that said, you may check into some of the other companies that offer cellular home security and possibly find one for about 40.00 a month.

There was a website, phonetrace.org, where you could put in a phone number and it would act like it was zooming in on the location of the phone. Then out of nowhere BOOM straight the meatspin page.
Got a lot of laughs out of getting friends to try that one out.

We just had Bates out in Lexington to redo our old ADT system. Seems to work well. Like having the mobile app if I forget so I can arm it from bed or work. I'd give them a call. Those systems aren't bad at all.

Plug for Burdine security.

Think its like $30 month to monitor, but you don't have to have it monitored...you just have to hope the neighbors call the cops when the sirens go off.

They have an app as well. Its nice, you get notified whenever somebody turns the alarm off and on, plus the ability to arm and turn off remotely.

And naturally, a firearm that you can acquire with a quickness while you wait for the cavalry to show up.

We've used Piper for over a year now. About $260 for the night vision unit. Stores up to 100 audio/video recordings in the cloud. No monthly fees and lots of wireless add on capabilities.

Somebody broke into my truck Saturday night and stole my golf clubs.

I had it backed in between the houses and pretty close to the privacy fence.

Basically this, except buy them off eBay or Amazon. You can get the two signs and window stickers for cheap

Yes but, many people win not enter simply because they are there. I have 2 that will happily let you in and one who likes no one but us. I have to calm her down every time wife's family comes over. All will bark as if world is ending which gives me enough time to grab Mossberg Flex 590 Tactical 12 gauge, Taurus 9mm, Taurus 1911 model 45, Glock 40, Rossi 38, and various other guns I have around the house.
