This is not a hater take. But I don’t see an overly impressive roster like the rest of the college basketball media are acting like.
- they have a really good player in Davis, a bunch of good not great guards, and some decent bigs.
- but they have little to no outside shooting
- what are everybodies thoughts?

Am I crazy to say it might be one of his worst on paper?
No I don’t think so, but Fland better be a stud or else their guard play outside Davis will cause them quite a few losses. Little shooting overall, if big Z doesn’t get looks and improve a ton. We know Wagner is streaky, Fland is unproven, Knox is streaky, Davis is solid, Big Z can hit, the rest of them won’t hit many.

As a team I can see this being one of his worst % teams overall. Especially if he goes away from the offense we ran last year. I don’t see how he runs it though without Welch and the proper players. They have talent for sure, but this let’s only have 9 players won’t work well. He’s gonna run 7 of them into the ground, any injuries or attitude problems and it could really blow up.

I see a top 15-20 team on paper. With that said Cal could have a chip on his shoulder and actually Coach this team.
I seriously doubt it, he’s not gonna change because he’s at a new school. I mean he’s had years to try and win in this new era and style and he just hasn’t. I don’t think that magically changes. He especially has not gotten his teams to defend lately.

I’m not sure he is capable to coach them up for the entire year. He lost his coaching staff and replaced them with…….wait for it ………Brad. Plus I think Z is a bit of fool’s gold. The more he played last year the more he revealed he wasn’t able to consistently play like he did his coming out game.

If that was UK’s roster, my excitement level would be in the middle for next season. Talented players, but question mark on how they will play as a team. Plus, the rotations and minutes will always be an issue with a Cal team. The roster size would concern me, maybe Cal has better luck there with avoiding injuries.

I don’t think he was used properly, he definitely has the talent to be a big time player but his conditioning must improve.

Basically what we felt the last 6-7 years honestly. Could be elite 8ish or could be a first round bust. Based on the last 5 years, first round bust with no conference titles seems more likely.

Cals teams here always had shooters that could shoot until they got here, for the most part. There were a few that came and were as good as advertised. Looking at their roster right now, it looks like a lack of shooters will be their Achilles heel.

I think the guard rotation has the potential to be great. We'll see how the rest goes.

You left out Brazile. I honestly think they need another player or two but I also think they have a very good group so far. I fully expect Wagner to be greatly improved as an experienced 19 year old.

I think the key is the end of that first paragraph. How well Fland, Wagner, Z and Knox can shoot will determine how high the ceiling is. Davis is really the only one who has proven it but the rest have the potential, just hard to tell with most of them being freshmen or sophomores. Can never predict how much someone will improve going into that second year.

Brazile hasn’t been mentioned but he’s a pretty solid shooter as well when healthy.

I think it will come down to the Adou and Aidoo big combo. Is Adou a guy that gets drafted next year like some projections say or is he the same non shooting inconsistently explosive player? Aidoo I remember being a good big and he put up decent stats. Anyone know why he only played 10 minutes vs Purdue? They played two teams with good bigs in the tourney. He combined for 4 points in 27 minutes total. Something seems off(probably why the transfer).

I think there are real benefits to the lack of depth, but woo boy are they taking a chance as multiple guys on the roster missed healthy chunks last year.
