It's a losers mentality to use the last 4 calipari seasons as a measurement of success this season. Raise your standards a bit.
Let's compare to caliparis first 6 seasons. This is UK and that's what we should strive for and expect from Pope over the next half decade or so.
Exactly why I can not stand how Cal coached those last 4-5 years and how he left the program after squandering talent including a consensus NPOY. Imagine Oscar with the proper supporting players to compliment his strengths?
Cal took “elite FRESHMAN talent” in those initial years and took those teams to numerous wins when only a small, handful of schools we’re trying similar recruiting tactics. However when the rest of the NCAA took notice…what happened? The talent pool went abroad and thinned. Cal had to work harder to find his next greatest group, but what happened? Usually we missed on a great 3-point shooter, or driving/slashing scorer, shot blocker, or wicked small forward…and so on. Oh sure we still won recruiting rankings but for what results? After 2015 Cal lost his mojo and eventually Robic and *boom* he got exposed.
So to say it’s a loser mentality to compare Cal’s last few years to the current team, when we have a coach that took a bunch of portal players and actually put together a solid team is a bad take. Cal could have done the same, but NO WAY does Cal win against Duke, Gonzaga…possibly even UofL this year with the team he “could” have had here. Remember Aidou was in the portal…who (along with Fland) has carried that Arkansas team to this point. I’d even be willing to bet Wagner, and BigZ would have transferred as well.
So yet again another “young” team and a coach trying to convince fans to “enjoy the process””.
