This may be our worst season in a decade. No depth and poor shooting. Hopefully, Collins reminds the recruits of the new arena.

"Worst season in a decade" makes me think you missed some of those years.

If NU had the same schedule it once carried, this bunch could go 10-1 or 9-2.

They are trying to build a real program with big boy competition. This is one of those hiccups.

Just think, "Football". We go through this early season hiccups with BB and Football every year. We have a good nucleus and we should be right up there competing in the Bigten. Maybe not with MSU but I think we have equal chances with any of the other top programs in the big.

I dont think so turk. There was a comment, about a week ago, that said the problem is within the team and it had something to do with selfishness. The poster suggested inside info about internal turmoil. I dunno but maybe that post had merit??

Chicagocatfan makes a good point. I hope someone is having an off-line discussion. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is generally skipping more threads (= less click$$).

Without denying its existence on the team, selfishness had nothing to do with Lindsey and Falzon going 0-12 from 3.

Why would you lose recruits? If I'm a good player and the team I'm joining has guys who are slumping, I'd figure there's that much more opportunity for me to get early playing time.

Ah, good players want to play on good teams.

I figure N.W. will, more sooner than later, arrive @ their pre-season destiny, and beat Illinois Friday. Upper 1/2 of B10 and decent NCAA seed. Sunday @ Mackey Arena in W. Lafayette will unlikely be a place involved with your positive future, however.

Yeah. Murderers Row:

Loyola, St. Peters, Creighton, La Salle, Sacred Heart, the 10th best teams in the ACC and Big 12, and then when you think to yourself, where will this madness ever end, buckle your seat belt for the grueling last leg of Ill/Chicago, Chicago State, Valapaiso and Brown.

Craziness! It might even be a top 150 NC SOS when its all said and done!

They are missing something and need to find it pretty quick. Played pretty crappy all night and then had that one period to show what they are capable of. We have a good opportunity and the horse is definitely not gone but we need to figure things out pretty quickly

Our SOS (currently at #119) is head and shoulders above many BIG teams. Glad we didn't schedule your team; at #275, Holy Cross would have been an anchor on our SOS.

Not to worry: we still have 319, 298, 241, 287, 234 AND a Division II opponent left.

I guess those are the challenges you have to face when you’re scheduling the “big boys.” LOL.

Conveniently left out the two BIG games and Oklahoma (#21), I see. Any teams of that caliber on HC's schedule? We will have played four ranked teams before Xmas...

Shocked that you would cherrypick, SHOCKED I say! You need to step up your troll game biggly, Coach C.

You don’t schedule the BIG teams, they are assigned, so your not beefing up your schedule by playing your conference games. Not a difficult concept. So there’s OK at 115 (in other words out of the NIT currently.)

I didn’t realize you considered #112 vs 115, a battle of “big boys,”?

Regardless [thanks Flalum] of the SOS, OU is good. If you have watched them you'd realize they are a solid team. Will be a tough game for the Cats.

OK at 115? Do you even internet? Making it too easy for me; #26 in KenPom right here. We're at #52. You favorite team, Holy Cross? #277 now.

Isn’t it against the terms of service to have multiple accounts? Is anyone ever gonna handle this?
I usually don't respond to such ridiculous comments but imo it is someone having some fun parroting me. My guess is Shivas or someone else who dropped off the boards, but who knows? I think it is hilarious. Of course I would, because I agree with almost everything he/she writes.

My dearest Mr Wickerpark, while your wisdom is overflowing, I think you may be wrong on this one. I haven't seen all of the games but have you seen us in anything other than man2man? Yea, that's what I thought. I don't know basketball but at some point I think Collins will consider more zones. The better teams smoked our man up defense, plus our players are gassed since our bench disappeared this year. Really shocked at our 4 stars, falzon and Rap. And Brown looks like a one year fluke.
Something is wrong, but I'm not sure what that poster meant. Cryptic I tell ya.

Sure, let's play your little numbers game, Mystic. I'll even play by your rules with your friend, KenPom.

Let's take a look at where NU's non-conference SOS ranks among all NCAA teams every year for the last ten.

296th ('08-'09)
344th ('09-'10)
325
207
303
281
326
349
349
249 and ... wait for it ...

... here it comes ...

118th ('17-'18)

Now, I'm reasonable enough to understand that 118 will probably fall, but it sure makes an argument, doesn't it?

I'm also reasonable enough to understand there's a bit of luck that goes into the strength of a schedule made months in advance. However, if you can't see the general difference in the approach to scheduling compared to 10 years ago, I can't help you.

At least this group can complete the simple task of finalizing a schedule before the middle of September like most professional staffs throughout the NCAA.

MysticCat! Hey buddy. Haven't seen you around in awhile. Probably last saw you on here in, oh...March, was it? Where've you been? You seemed really down the last time you posted. Hope you got everything figured out. We're all pulling for you!

Sounds like Holy Cross has had a rough start to the season, too. They fell to the mighty Manhattan Jaspers 70-55. I know you're a huge Crusaders fan, so I hope you're handling it OK. You have a habit of getting very upset, you know. Not healthy for the ol' ticker! But hey, I'm sure the Crusaders play a thrilling brand of basketball. It must be tons of fun to watch with the other 25 fans who catch every game!

Don't make it another 8 months before you say hi!

Collins is a man2man guy. I agree that we really arent built to be man2man. It worked with sanjay last year and we didnt lose our legs, but with no current depth we are gassed and throw up bricks later in the game. Someone just has to step up. We know brown and falzon are capable even though they are sleepwalking thus far.

Now if they only had a system for handing in the lineup on time and not getting a pregame T.

Amateur hour.

So according to your list, fully half of CC’s schedules are weaker than any single schedule of the BC era. Sounds like we’re playing with the big boys alright!

Yes. I was disappointed for the kids that CC’s meltdown cost us a tourney game.

At least he navigated handing in the lineup successfully that night!
