Horn recruiting in the sewer

Gotta give it up to "most" horn fans. They seem to be pretty realistic about this year's class. Most are coming in with a C- to B- and a rare sunshine pumping A, but their patience and moderate expectations make me believe that some of the horns are more practical than I give them credit for. But as others mentioned, let's hold off to see how this class is "coached up" and what the do on the field over the next 2-3 years first.

Yeah, Herman only had limited opportunity to come in and make some splashes in recruiting, but he never got it to materialize. Doesn't mean he won't or can't. For Texas, it's more about winning. They're the flagship university in their state. Like OU when Stoops got here, all it will take to go back to their rightful place in the pecking order is winning a few games.

It's not like they are filling a bare cupboard. '15 and '16 were pretty good years for them. They have players, but with the house cleaning Charlie did when he got there, I suspect they're pretty thin behind their starters.

Hey Schooner! This is RCSooner here. How've you been doing all these years? You still living in Atlanta? Go Falcons! ;)

Saigo have you researched your name farther back than the Private on Iwo Jima ? The name is from the the true Last Samurai (who shared the name from his father) and probably was common earlier...

Carry on, texsa & the pats suck

My gf lives with me and is a huge Pats fan so I have to support her team if I want to live ha ha. I asked her what she wanted me to grill or make for the Super Bowl, she said Falcon Soup and Wings! Gotta love it. She watches them every game on Sunday Ticket and before we met a few years ago she flew up there by herself to go to a Pats game, she is a true football fan. I am a Dolphin fan, I know I know, its not an easy thing to be the past few decades. Gloves are off when our teams play each other.

And yep its glad to see whorn suffrage!

I think that Charlie put such an emphasis to African American kids that they should come play for an African American coach and a majority black staff, that when that went away, it hurt the new staff. And the timing of coming in is always a challenge when you're a head coach, changing to be HC at another school. It will just be really interesting how that meshes with the returning players and how it works with the next recruiting class.

Word is that CS burned a lot of bridges with the state's high school coaches. How Herman goes about repairing that will be a really big factor in the future.

I hope Texas sucks on the field for the next two decades. But whether they do or not, I'm interested in. During my teens, we beat them once. I'll always be interested, as long as we play them in anything.

I remember many October Saturdays being ruined from 1958-1970 as OU won only once (1966) against Texas. I also remember the back-to-back-to-back chokes during the 1989, 1990 and 1991 seasons in which OU lost each game even though it had a better team.
At 68, I would love to see OU win all the Texas games through my remaining years.

I thought the problems in 89-91 were on Gibbs. He'd put out a shell of an offense playing not to lose and relying on his defense to make a lead stand up. Made a cult hero out of Peter Gardere.

We put an end to the 58-70 streak my junior year, when Jack Mildren led OUr wishbone to a three touchdown win. DKR never beat his alma mater again.

Agree. OU played not to lose and found ways to lose in agonizing ways.....a 4th down pass for a UT touchdown with seconds left in the game (28-24 final), a fumble returned for a touchdown in the 4th quarter that turned a 7-3 Sooner lead into a 10-7 Sooner loss, and a failed field goal on the last play that ended with a 14-13 Texas win.
I saw the beginning of the Texas series drought in 1958 with Texas beating OU with the new 2-point conversion rule, 15-14.....and the saw the end of the drought in 1971 with OU winning 48-27. (I remember feeling very low during at the start of that game when Texas scored first on Wigginton's 44 yard run.....then OU's offense exploded).
Both games were also special memories of being with my dad.

I don't think it's wrong to enjoy Longhorn failures, but I don't ever want to define my obsession and love of OU football by what Texas, or any other team does or doesn't do.
That's what O-State and Red Sox fans do.....celebrate the failures of OU and the Yankees as much as their own team's successes.
