Just left the new Cabellas store in Lexington, and it is sick!!! Every bit the outdoors monstrosity you would imagine it can be.

So, how about some good fishing holes, techniques, advice? You name it.

White bass running now, will be heading to Nolin River in a week or two to slay them. Not great eating but great fun when they are running.

Actually it is called line. Not sure if thread is strong enough. In all seriousness, I have been a couple of times already this year. It has been unusually warm around here. Caught a 5 pound blue cat off of a rattle trap the other day.

Looking to set some fish attractors in the farm pond this year. The owner pulled out all the trees and brush over time. About the only cover are rocks around some of the banks.

Anyone have any experience with the pvc fish attractors? Looking to fix the population in this pond. All the bass are 12" and never bigger

Thought KY Lake was full of carp now.
It's been quite some time since I've been down there but the biggest crappie I've ever seen was there.

Been out bass fishing 6 times now. Fishing has been steady but not spectacular. A bunch of shorts, some small keepers and two really nice bass last week. One around 4 and another around 6 to 6.5. Also caught a nice muskie that made it into my father in laws freezer. Going to start hitting the lake again about Wednesday. Spent a couple hours today building four nice brush piles, may get out tomorrow and built a few more before the lake starts coming up to summer pool next month.

How about a good non-boat bass fishing hole close to lex?

Georgetown has the Elkhorn and some FINS lakes.
Paris has Stoner creek starting at Frymans boat dock and it meanders north of Paris in less fished areas off Peacock road if you can find a place to park.

My wife wants to take her brother fishing. I'm game. He has a "neurological condition". I say all of this to say that rivers, boats, etc. aren't always a good idea and don't always work with him. So - are there any pay ponds still around in the McCracken, Graves, Marshall, etc. end of the state?

Fishing is something I did nearly everyday as a kid and wish I did more as an adult. Other than a deep sea charter I bet it's been 10+ years since I've been fishing in freshwater.

July 23rd I head to Alaska (Kenai area) again.

A glorious week of salmon and halibut fishing.

Something anyone who loves fishing should experience at least once in their life.

I'm a big fan of the main stem of Elkhorn Creek in Frankfort. Smallmouth fishing there is excellent from the distillery all the way to the KY river. I caught a 4 lb smallie there last summer and many in the 2-3 lb range.

There's plenty of public access waters from neighborhood lakes to Wildlife Management Areas.

BTW anyone seen the new trout stream created below the Cumberland dam?

Catching smallmouth on crankbaits during the day on Cumberland and Stripers at night on rogue jerkbaits. Mostly in the creeks. Most of the stripers should be in the 30+ inch range this year on Cumberland.
Killed the largemouth and smallmouth on the upper end of Laurel lake on red crawfish colored wiggle warts but that was before the cold front so not sure what they are doing now.
Havent been on Dale Hollow yet this year but BFL had their first tourney this past Saturday and there were alot of fish weighed in so they must be biting pretty good there.

Anybody catfish? I've been out a few times to the prison lake while I wait for the river to go down and nothing big but have caught quite a few healthy 8-10 pound blues.

I have been fortunate to have done a lot of saltwater and freshwater fishing. Two places I missed out on was the trout fishing near Pucon in the foothills of the Andes when I was there in '89 and fishing the Zambezi River when I was there in '90. Still on my bucket list is a billfish of some type, a yellowfin tuna, and salmon at Campbell River.

I've been to Reelfoot. We were looking for big bluegill. Honestly don't remember how the fishing was. All I remember were the snakes and the stumps. Don't take your own boat and watch out for the cat tails that are laid over.

Been looking at booking a few nights at Reelfoot. I would love to catch enough crappy to have a few fries. Anybody been?
I went once.

We had crappy weather and not much luck. But I did enjoy myself and I would give it another try.

I can't remember the name of were we stayed off the top of my head. But I felt it was a good value. The ones I researched were all similar, so you should have fun. Good luck.

Edit to add: I did not intentionally use crappy weather. But you get the drift

I used to go fishing a lot. Elkhorn Creek in Frankfort…striper fishing on Lake Cumberland…crappie fishing on KY Lake…etc…

But I don't have as much time now to take fishing trips. Sold the boat a while back. Plus I have a fully stocked farm pond on my back 40. Takes a little bit of the challenge out of it…but it's perfect for taking my kids fishing. It's close and they catch a ton every time we go. Good times.

I'm from Hollywood unlike most of you bible thumping, wrestling loving rednecks, but I'm pretty sure they're called fishing lines, not fishing threads.

Always wanted to fish out there. What do you use for bait? Do you ever keep any of the fish?

I usually use bluegill for bait. Mostly fillets but I've caught a couple on heads. The vast majority of them I have caught out of the I have thrown back just because I don't really like the taste of catfish after they get over about 5 pounds

Was planning to go catfish ing yesterday but things changed. Need to get out some, but with this heat there isn't much hope in catching anything.

In recent years I've been doing way more fishing in the winter than in the summer. Spring and fall are still my favorite times of year for fishing though.

Heading to the beach in a few weeks, 30A area of northwest Florida. Have never had any luck and have tried various bait recommendations over the years. Mostly fishing off the beach, with one small lake close by the condo that empties into the ocean. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA.

If you don't mind crossing the Mason Dixon line then Patoka Lake is highly recommended. I'm a true blue Kentuckian but I don't have a problem taking fish from the hoosiers now and then.

Mudshark can make for a good fish story.

"It wasn't Bonzo, it was me. It wasn't shark parts anyway: It was the nose that got put in. We caught a lot of big sharks, at least two dozen, stuck coat hangers through the gills and left 'em in the closet . . . But the true shark story was that it wasn't even a shark. It was a red snapper and the chick happened to be a f_______ redheaded broad with a ginger p____. And that is the truth. Bonzo was in the room, but I did it. Mark Stein [of Vanilla Fudge] filmed the whole thing. And she loved it. It was like, "You'd like a bit of *******, eh? Let's see how your red snapper likes this red snapper!" That was it. It was the nose of the fish, and that girl must have come 20 times."-- Richard Cole, Road Manager for Led Zeppelin
