How do you feel about body shaming?

This girl I graduated high school with has gone viral with her "I am content with my body" facebook post. Of course, tons of people are ripping her and trying to shame her body and just as many are rallying the "you go girl."

With 2 daughters I obviously am interested in the phenomenon of body ideals and psychological bullying. As a man, I obviously don't understand the intricacies of modern body shaming. I just want to be healthy, maybe have a little bigger pecs and arms and a little smaller gut. Don't give 2 ***** about what society says about my gams.

Do you think we'll ever reach the point as a society where being healthy is more important than having non pointy elbows?

I mean, I'd want someone to tell me I was fat, if I was indeed fat and refused to admit it.

The body positivity thing is ok until it conflicts with basic concepts of health. "Health at every size" (HAES) is a lie that fat people are buying into. There are studies saying fat people can be sort-of-healthy but they are like the old studies that said smoking was fine.

Facebook - how about the viral post that goes "I am content with people who don't feel the urgent need to publicize their insufferable feelings all the effing time?"

I find those type of posts to be the most pathetic "Look at me and feed me compliments" type of BS. It's such a desperate need for attention. I think I've seen the post you're talking about of her on the beach in a bikini. No one would call her fat. The girl likes how she looks in a photo and wanted everyone to see it.

My wife knows this girl from high school. She was always popular. It's just such a "please give me these compliments and empower me" charade. You know what people who feel confident about their body do?

They don't feel the need to post it on social media and share it for the world.

It's about damn time that someone posted a picture. Would, but wouldn't brag to the Paddock about it.

IF THAT IS her in the pic---- that's not even close to a problem. Looks-wise, what bar couldn't she jiggle/walk in to and without getting a drink bought for her?

I'll have to go with the wants-attention and maybe-the-internet-will-provide voters.

I just realized I didn't respond to your main question^^^

Looks are always going to rank way up there, and Society's current direction doesn't look like it's going to change that. Seems like guys only care if a chick digs them, whereas girls get the double-whammy of wanting approval from (a LOT of) the guys AND (a LOT of the) girls. That turns it into a mental issue, as much as it is physical.

Good luck with your daughters.

I wonder if your wife knows me. Small world.

Traditionally it has been an important part of American culture to let fat people know that they are fat and to judge them fiercely when you encounter them ordering fast food. Especially the ones that order 5 cheeseburgers and a diet coke.

I see nothing wrong with the occasional "Hey, you fat bastard stop ordering pizza" so long as you do it tactfully and with the intent on helping that person realize they are a fat slob who is quickly becoming utterly useless to society. The fat is there for a purpose. It tells the world you are open, ready, and willing to accept the scorn that comes with it. Kind of like hanging out a shingle that says "help me control myself, please." When you insult them, you are showing you care.

It took 19 posts to get a picture of this woman.

Aside from her having hotdog legs she doesn't seem too bad. From the angle that the picture is taken her nose has potential to be a beak but she falls nicely into the "wood" category

Hmmm, hot sexy body or tub of goo. Is this really even a choice? Some people just don't want to be judged.

Lol I was about to post this after seeing her on the daggum front page of the neighbor section of the pathetic herald leader.

She looks real nice. Do you think she's very friendly?

Would bury it so deep, whoever pulled me off would be crowned King Arthur.
