How does NIL work?

Are players paid a lump sum upfront or payments? Are there contracts, accountabilities, practice and behavior standards? Is any part of it performance based or are the players holding the trump cards and their teams hostage? I am totally confused because it appears Mark Pope has lost total control of this team and program.

Need to institute "Play for Pay" NIL. Come to UK if you can ball out and we'll pay you better than anyone based on performance.
All team members get $10,000 a win and $15,000 for quad 1.
The rest is sliding scale based on what you were brought in for. If it's rebounding and shot blocking those are your payment metrics. Same goes for 3 pt shooters.

NIL and Revenue Sharing are wrongly getting lumped into one big thing and called NIL.

UK can direct a player, toward possible NIL possibilitys. They have very little say over it. I think the state, says it can't be Alcohol, Tabocoo or Gambling. Starting this year.... All NIL deal over $600 has to be entered into a software program called NIL Go. And be vetted to see if the NIL deal is fair market value, and not some business giving 2 million for a 10 second commercial. Word is NIL go, is extreamly slow, as the Ncaa only has 4 people working in this department. The payments for NIL are made between the player, agent and business... They could structure it to be paid over time. But from my understanding.. NIL can not be tied to performance... It's strictly for there Name, I age or Likeness.

Revenue Share is a whole other animal. It can be set up like a normal business contract. With a base pay, and then incentives for games played, performance and a buyout if they transfer mid season. They can be structured to be paid over time and so forth... The university has a huge laditude to do as they see fit, just like any other business contract. Which is why having a GM is becoming a more attractive position for schools to have.

Thanks for the clarification. I have been somewhat overwhelmed trying to figure this out.

3 years in and they still have no idea what NIL is and how it works. Despite being clueless they’re experts on the subject and spread misinformation and lies.

Revenue sharing and NIL are absolutely not the same thing. Revenue sharing is the part of the athletics department revenue that athletes get to share. The university decides how they want to split up $20.5 million with the athletes at their school.

NIL is a player get paid for their name image and likeness. They get NIL money through things like endorsement deals, appearances, having camps and clinics, social media promos, signing autographs, promoting local restaurants, and collectives paying them for one the above. JMI
and BBN Suite does NIL with the hundreds of UKs official partners that allow them to use UKs marks and logos. They still have all the of other NIL options available to them and don’t have to use JMI if they choose not to. NIL deals are guaranteed and aren’t performance based.

I don’t thinks anyone actually knows for sure how it works. Seems like they make up new rules as it goes along.

This was what was intended with the House decision. It would have disallowed the Cooperatives. This intent didn’t last any longer than it took the ink to dry. Cooperatives are still functioning like they always did and it is through this door that donors can funnel their money to the players. It might not be overt but the universities direct how the money is to be used.

Then by all means, please enlighten us to the truth and facts of the matter, but I have an overt suspicion that you want no part of that.
I have in this post, y’all still make up lies and pretend not to know how anything works to serve daddy Matt because you’re a KSR fan first.

Brooks seems to think there is an NIL issue. But Mitch says it’s ok. Meanwhile other schools collectives are operating business as usual as the SCORE Act fails to gain congressional support.

So when the Herald-Leader reached Brooks by phone Monday — just a few hours after news broke that Stein was the likely pick to replace Mark Stoops at Kentucky — Brooks did not have a lot of insight to offer on the Wildcats’ new coach. He did have a piece of advice for the administration, though. “Unless Kentucky steps up and gets in the ball game, it’s a tough job,” Brooks said. “If they do, they have a real good chance.” Brooks was referring to Kentucky’s investment in name, image and likeness funds. He attributed a lack of NIL resources compared to other SEC powers as the primary reason Mark Stoops was unable to sustain the unprecedented success he achieved at Kentucky with a stretch of eight straight bowls that included two 10-win seasons.

Yes there’s an NIL issue. We have a fanbase who doesn’t give a dime to NIL, makes up lies about NIL, and blames everyone else. UK had to think outside of the box to make up for the lack of support and said fans **** on that too. You can’t make this stuff up.
