My dad taught me to back boats down ramps when I was about 10. I could barely see out the window I was so small then. Pretty scary at first. Can’t believe he let me do it alone after the first lesson. Nobody else could either. It’s one of the things I remember about my dad that gave me confidence. It also allowed me to impress the FFA teacher and other kids in high school when we were learning to back trailers with a tractor. It was easy for me while most of the class struggled.
About the same time, my grandfather let me drive his pickup on the narrow country roads in Western Kentucky. I remember meeting approaching big rig trucks scared to death while he sat in the passenger seat seemingly unaffected. I later had to take a drivers ed class in high school and again impressed everybody.
