So after watching Spieth crush and demoralize Augusta National, it seems that Augusta National should be fixed to keep it from happening again.

So, how would you adjust the course?

I think its distance is already maxed out. About the only way to make it tougher would be to grow US Open style rough and bring the fairways in. They're never going to do that, though.

Having been there (for Crenshaw's win in '95), I can't imagine Augusta doing anything at all that takes away from its pristine condition.

Give patrons dodgeballs to throw at players, like they do in triathlons. They'd have to be green and yellow, naturally.

^ A commercial for this book came on as I read your post. It has to be a sign.

Hmmm, possibly. If a commercial for "The Chief Looks At Augusta" comes on then we'll have confirmation.

Add more trees. When players knock their drive deep into the forest and come out with a birdie or an easy par, that's just not right. The greens should be slowed down, the pros freaking love those fast greens.

Stock the whole course with reptiles: gators in the water, copperheads in the rough, tons of frogs and salamanders getting into everything, and so on. Maybe some large lizards to make you think twice about taking a drop in a particular spot. It would add a new layer of complexity.

What the hell is the matter with you guys? Improve the Masters? It's the greatest golf tournament in the world, and there is nothing else like Augusta. but if you had to change something to answer this stupid question, they should make everybody drink a beer per hole.

I personally love watching a course where birdies are always within reach, but if you miss a shot a double bogey can happen really quickly. Valhalla is the same way. Yes someone can run away with it on occasion, but most years there is so much drama because of the constant up and down. Not every tournament should be the US Open. I like the majors being different personally, but maybe that's just me.

This is should become a PGA standard IMO. We are obsoleting our historic golf courses. MLB doesn't use aluminum bats.

Would be interesting to see stats on the number balls in the drink on 13 and 15 over the years. Spieth went 3w and 6/7 iron on 15 on sunday.

At least one, if not both, of the par 5s on the back should be par 4s. Maybe have to shorten them a little but anytime the field can hit mid-iron into a par 5 green, it's not really a par 5.

Rough could be longer. Hell, when I visited, the first cut of rough was about the same length as many of the greens on courses where I played. Second cut was just a smidge longer.

I actually like the persimmon woods, an 'official' Masters golf ball that isn't like a rocket, etc. that would keep more than half the field bombing 300+ yards from the tee and just flying over the potential trouble, uneven lies, etc. that brings in the charm of the course. It's almost become a pitch-and-putt course nowadays. Whoever can hit their irons closest and make putts on tricky greens wins. Almost nothing in the fairway is ever a problem. Just fly over it.

The key to the windmill is to try and hit the blade. Count on your complete lack of talent to miss, and therefore make.

Make players carry their own f^%king bags -- the goddamn ancient Scots didn't have some half-*** Sherpa waggin' their **** around the pastures and giving them advice.

You can do a lot to the course but what really seems to bother the pros is throwing them off their game. So randomly place 4-somes of Asian hackers throughout the course and expect to see the scoring average to shoot up around 95.

where ya been?

To make it more like real golf, have the sprinklers turn on at random times around the course during play.

good catch. I was speculating on the 6/7 since they said he was right at 200.

Add more squirrels. Flying squirrels on the par 5's. Eastern gray squirrels on the par 4's. Alpine marmots on the par 3's.

And more cowbell.

I agree with Jack. Large head drivers are an abomination as well.

Also, did a Google Earth on Chambers Bay Golf Course near Seattle where the US Open will be played. Looks like a pure links golf course on the Bay. Should be interesting.

Get rid of all of those "quiet please" signs. Hell might as well play the tourney in Rupp Arena. It is too quiet on the course. Oh, maybe have some thug announcers like Ced The Entertainer on Kings Of Comedy was playing. "Don't be shishing me, Tiger my cousin." "G Damn dog, you almost had it, I don't know what to tell ya" when Phil misses a 5 footer. Could you imagine if the commentary was done by Rude Jude and Sir off of Shade 45 ? Ish would get real quick with brothers out there in Timberlands, Wave Caps, borrowing peoples golf carts to run to the store, IMO. Add adventure and a little character to golf, it is too stiff.

You guys are crazy. Augusta is the nicest course in the world. I can't stand the way the USGA sets up the golf courses for the U.S. Open. I would much rather see birdies and eagles than pars and bogeys.

Augusta doesn't need any changes.

I just wish they would let more guys play. The roster for Augusta is a bit limited. Allow golfers to come in the week before to qualify for 5 spots. Now that would be awesome.

One of the things KY doesnt lack---confidence. I'm always amazed with the stupid responses in an effort to be funny. Over 30 responses, most in a humorous way, and not one was funny. Everyone wants to be that guy.

Amen, Louis_Skunt.

Louis_Skunt. Now there's a very funny sounding name. Especially when you say it fast and all together. Yep, very funny.

turn it into a casino where prostitution is legal and have other amenities like dog tracks and cock fighting (with chickens, not gay porn stars) and get rid altogether the whole golf b.s.
