How would the 2001 team do vs the 2010, 2015 and 1992 teams?

I thought 2001 Duke is one of the best teams of the last 20 years. To me, them and 2012 Kentucky are the two that come to mind of being fantastic teams vs other champions.

What's your thoughts? How do you think that team does vs the others I mentioned? I threw in 1992 because everyone holds that team in high regard.

It was the only Duke team that won every tourney game by double digits
iirc, 2nd all-time behind MSU the year before. I don't know if anyone has done it since b/c after our Sweet 16 loss to Nova in 2009, the rest of the NCAAT was cancelled.

That 2001 team is still my all time fav. I met most of them by chance before the start of that season while at a football game. Shane Battier became my favorite Dukie that day

And seniors that would have ran through a brick wall for the name on the front of the jersey

01 team is my runner up to 92. Coast to coast #1, team was like a rock band on tour and led by Laettner, the original assassin

That 2001 team was the best six deep we've ever had. Legendary talent at every starting spot.

But damn, the 2010 team is hard to beat in my heart...

2001:. 2010:
Jwill. Scheyer
Nate James. Smith
Dunleavy. Singler
Battier. Thomas
Boozer. Zoubek
Duhon. Dawkins
Sanders. Plumsx2

Looking at a breakdown the 01 team is way better. We are talking about 5 solid pros in the top 7 players, assuming Jwill stayed healthy. Then the 10 team has one pro in Singler, plus the Plums who were young bucks at the time. I love the 10 team but the 01 guards were more athletic, James would do a heck of job on the Scheyer or Smith. Battier would have destroyed Thomas. Don't get me wrong I love Thomas, heck my first born son's name is Lance, but Battier is on Rushmore for Duke guys. 10s size could cause some probkems, as it did for everyone, but just don't see them being able to stop the 01 guys for long.

'99 would have a claim to the best team since... since... I don't know, Wooden's teams? That they had plenty of business losing to one of the most underappreciated champs ever in UConn takes some of the sting out of it for me.

It's '92 then '01 for me, though for sentiment, '92 might be last place of the title teams for me. '01 and '10 are tops for me there.

I feel like the 98-99 Duke team was better than the 2001 Duke team. They just didn't win it in 99 sadly. Still bothers me when I think about it, but the 92 team is the best. The 92 team has to be not only the best Duke team, but has to be one of the top 5 best college basketball teams of all time.

2001 vs 1992 would be tough. Laettner over Boozer but Hill over Dunleavy. Personally, I think Jay Williams was an out of this world talent and would be the difference maker despite Hurley's talents.

Forgot about Battier too. I'm taking the 2001 team as the best Duke team ever and I know that speaks volumes considering the 1992 team.

1999 was very good. That was a rare year where the top two teams played each other in the finals. I also think Duke only lost two games that year, right? One was on that buzzer-beater dunk by Cinci early in the season and then UConn, right?

That team was loaded but a senior Battier seemed like a big difference maker to add with Williams.

Off the top of my head so forgive if wrong.

1999
Avery
Langdon
Carrawell
Battier
Brand
Maggette

2001
Jay Williams
Duhon
Dunleavy
Boozer
Battier

That's a very tough game.

I get into it with some fans from time-to-time but I think Laettner is top two or top three college player ever with Alcindor and Maravich as the other two. Obviously didn't have a great pro career but in college, you will be hard pressed to find anyone who ever accomplished more.

Hurley, Laettner and Hill will always be embedded in my brain when I think of how great college basketball was in the 90s.

I find titles that are unexpected usually mean more than ones where you know you're a big favorite or expect it.

Hard to pick against 92. Hill was becoming legit...And of course Hurley and Laettner already were. You could very well make a case that Hill was the greatest Duke player of all time, especially by pro success. His Jr and Sr years just missed on some talent. Anybody here know what happened to 93 season? I remember watching them lose to Kidd, but I was 9 at the time and i don't remember that whole season. Were we good? Underachieving? Injured? Seems Hurley and Hill would be a pretty decent starting point for building a team.

The 01 team was capable of being down more than 20 points and still winning. You can't teach that type of toughness (or maybe you can if you're the GOAT).

2001 was my favorite team until the 2015 team came along . J will was my favorite all time until he became an announcer.

Imo they beat 2010 and 2015 with no problem. 91 and 92 they would be close but a guy by the name of Laettner is to much in the end.

The 2001 team should have went back to back. Boozer got fouled on the put back, but we weren't getting any call in corrupt arena.
Dunleavy was such a beast on that team.

Ha. Why don't you like him now that he's an announcer?

He goes over the edge of trying not to look biased, and ends up bashing the program imo, and plays to the opposing fan bases more than a normal commentator would. Everyone knows he played at Duke.

One team not getting any love is the 66 team.If Verga does not get sick no one will ever convince me that we do not win the NC.All five starters played in the pro's and three of them made at least one All-Star game.Yes kiddies Duke had basketball before K lol

91-92 was something special. That team still has individual records that will never be touched and to go wire to wire number 1. But you can't take nothing away from Battier and the boys neither. Heck they are all equal in my eyes. They all hung a banner with one doing it back2back baby.

Yep. 1992 is my favorite.

Hurley, Laettner, and Grant Hill is an extremely tough team to beat. Throw in McCaffrey from 91 without the head games and you have a fairly unstoppable team.
could you imagine the matchups. The wills of Laettner and Battier and the passion both had to win. Hurley head to head with J.Will. G.Hill head to head with Battier. Booz and Saunders head to head with Laettner. Lang and Dunleavy. There are mismatches on both sides and it would have been fun but that 92 team ekes it out in the end. IMO

I want to know how many fans turned that game off thinking they lost.

I was in college, at my apartment, and decided to take a shower because I could not watch anymore. I get out, am drying my boys off, and I see we are about to tie the game. Needless to say I watched the rest of it.

I'm in the camp that thinks the '99 team was the best Duke team in the K era. And I can't choose between '92 and '01 for second best.
