BTW, the chargers wouldn't be dropped. He'll plead no content and then go through the program as well as a probationary period. They would expunge the charge but even after that, if he were to get another DUI he would be facing both the first and second.

The Allegheny County (Pa) District Attorney’s Office confirmed to MetroNews Monday the office has determined Huggins is eligible for the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) for first-time DUI offenders.
“After a review, Mr. Huggins is eligible for ARD admission (non-violent, first time offender),” an office spokesperson said.
Huggins waived his preliminary hearing on the charges last week. The decision sets up a formal arraignment for Huggins on Aug. 17 at 8 a.m. when ARD will likely be discussed.

I suppose that he is considered a first-time offender here in PA, despite his similar offense many moons ago in another state. I believe he went through a similar process then.

Seems like at least some of his players genuinely liked him and that it was reciprocal. Huggins was always like Bobby Knight in this respect, if you weren't in the fraternity of college basketball, you didn't count for anything. If you were faculty, admin, or media, or even a caller to a talk show, he presumed you were an ignorant and adversarial dumbass. If you weren't one of his guys you were also probably treated differently. Just guessing.
Huggins is getting the same slap on the wrist that a lot of people get if they are first offenders. Except, he lost his job over it and was humiliated in the press to millions of people. Most people would not have to suffer those parts. My guess is Huggins would trade a stiffer legal penalty in exchange for his job. DUIs are so common anymore its ridiculous, and they dont even catch 10% of the people actually drinking and driving I bet.

Hoppy Kercheval hinted that there were things that would come out about Huggins if this case goes to discovery that he wouldn't want made public. I've been thinking that if Bob felt in the clear enough to have a few drinks and represent WVU on the radio and drive around Pittsburgh in a university car with three sheets in the wind, that there have to be other incidents that occurred around the coliseum that we know nothing about. Maybe it is telling that the players who left were those that had played under him. Maybe lots of people were down to their last straw.
What world do you live in where the professional consequences of something like this exceed the criminal consequences? Huggins was always destined to get no much in terms of criminal penalties, but standards of behavior for professionals in the public eye are higher than criminal standards. As it should be.
I don't consider basketball coaches some kind of important professional who needs idolized like you do. In my world, Huggins is nothing more than a basketball coach. A sport meant for entertainment and i love the sport but it doesnt play a role in my personal life, or kids lives. I would hold an electrician to a higher standard actually. Except they don't lose their jobs for dui like most true professionals in this world don't either. We only hold the entertainers to a higher standard and I personally think that is stupid lol. It's part of why America is the way it is right now
Imagine if people held their elected officials to as high of a standard as sports players and coaches lol. Imagine if we held construction workers to that standard. Line cooks, fast food workers, cashier's at Dollar Stores. Imagine if they were held to as high of a standard and their social and personal life as people like Bob Huggins

Lastly, I know my professional licensing board would bar me for 2 DUI convictions and it is not a public position where PR is a consideration. So would many state BAR associations. You are again wrong in that none or hardly any professional positions would be held to a similar standard.
Just to be clear ... You are talking to someone that thinks expecting someone to NOT be over 2.5 the legal limit BAC, drinking multiple beers WHILE driving, blacking out for 7 hours, and ending up 180 miles from where you think you should be is "holding someone to a high standard." Sane people would consider this the bare minimum to not be a piece if ****. Just to give you perspective on the kind of person you will be trying to reason with.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Im not saying Huggins shouldn't bein trouble. He has to deal with the justice system. If you are not happy with what they do take it up with the doj. But I personally think either everyone should lose their jobs or everyone shouldn't lose their jobs in the event of a dui. The cherry pickijg sucks. The fact that any plumber or electrician who are responsible for the quality and safety of people's homes keep their jobs most of the time if they get a dui and yet a basketball coach get shamed publicly and canned it totally ridiculous lol. It's not just a DUI. It's multiple legal issues involving alcohol, and going on a radio show while drunk and embarrassing himself and everyone he represents and is paid handsomely to do so. Stop trying to make this about just the DUI, which at 0.21 is bad enough in itself. This is a repeat offender who seemed to actually be showing remorse, but is now telling us none of that was actually his statement, so he's not remorseful and, in fact, wants his job back with no repercussions. He's a big, fat child, and enabling him makes you a ****** parent in this scenario.
Why dont you just admit that you've wanted Huggins gone for a while because of his coaching style, and dont like him and this is more personal to you than anything. On the other hand I have held my opinion about holding sports players/coaches to higher standards than most other people long before Huggins. I think its stupid and cruel for people to act that way to entertainers. I grew up in Morgantown where almost everyone driving on an average Friday night is drunk and/or on drugs. I know people who have done way worse than Huggins but they kept their jobs, so a stupid DUI is pretty common. If everyone lost their jobs over it society would probably close down.
If legal standards is your definition of morality, then I feel for you and anyone who calls you friend. Pressuring a woman into an abortion to avoid child support and bad press ala Pitino or being a serial philanderer do not have ANY criminal repercussions, but I would hope you'd at least consider those as vile and unworthy of a person with integrity. Also your idea that social and professional repercussions be equivocal across all cases is another fallacy. This is true of legal/criminal law which is the basis for a limited governmental approach, but as John Adams said (paraphrasing): 'The government we have established is for a moral and religious people. It is wholly unfit for anyone else.' This means that the legal standard for repercussions SHOULD BE FAR BELOW the standard for social/societal repercussions as the freedom allowed is only fit for those who have a baseline, innate moral code to which they aspire. Thus if legal, aka punitive, repercussions are the primary motivator of the populace than the freedom granted by the legal system is too liberal for a thriving society. If you do not think that being the face of a program that relies on recruiting players from their mothers and good press from the media should entail a higher standard of conduct that just what is legal or illegal, you are ignorant of the requirements of the job. Also if you think alcoholism that makes someone capable of doing what Huggins did does not affect his or her job performance, you are also woefully ignorant.

I don't think I have ever known an electrician, plumber, line cook, store clerk, or garbage man who could make embarrassing national news with a. DUI. Huggins can't have it both ways, be a very highly paid, even revered public figure and face of the university and then have the anonymity of a maintenance worker when he wants to get sh#tface drunk.
Plus conveniently disregarding the fact that said highly inebriated driver was in a University owned vehicle.
