Deal has been signed between Hulu, 21st Century Fox, Disney, and Time Warner Cable. Goes into effect in January 2017- live and on demand access to all ESPN channels, Fox Sports Channels, ABC, CBS, Disney, Fox News, FX Networks, TNT, TBS, CNN, TruTV.... Will cost $40...

Apparently YouTube is also working out deals for a streaming service to do the same and possibly even partner with Netflix.

This IMO is the beginning of the end of Dish/DirectTv/Cable as we know it...

About time. This is what competition in business is all about.

I live in town with good internet but may move to a area in the country with only crap internet available . So it wouldn't work for me and I'm not so eager to see the death of dtv if I do move . Unless twc want to run cable a few more miles , which they probably wouldn't

Will not be the end of cable, especially because of seniors. My grandparents don't even have the internet, nor a computer. Plus TWC offers the best internet service in ky, 300 Mbps download. Until google fiber comes around, I will be sticking with TWC.

I suppose anything can happen, but I don't really see Hulu sinking the AT&T owned Direct TV any time soon.

Especially since DirecTV is already offering a better and cheaper streaming option.

Wrong. Direct TV Live has no access to CBS and in order to get all channels Hulu's package will offer you have to at least go with the "Just Right" or "Go Big" packages which are $50 and $60 a month...

The $35 packed doesnt include SEC Network, NFL Network, NBC Sports, NBC, MTV, Golf, Any FX Channels, Fox Sports, ESPNU, ESPN NEWS, No Big 10 Network and a few others.

So HULU live's package, plus their on demand selection is still cheaper.

Im just hoping it maybe drives prices down in the name of competition. Or maybe cable companies come up with an a-la-carte type deal maybe

Cut cable, then purchase different cable that's delivered to your house by the same damn cable you never cut in the first place! Brilliant!

Wonder why cable ain't changing?

Everyone gets the Go Big package for $35 for the time being. If you plan on streaming cable DirecTV Now is a better option than waiting for Hulu.

Local networks are a non issue because 1. None of the Lexington or Louisville stations will be available on any platform anytime soon and 2. Just buy an antenna.

I'll take your word on pricing because, frankly, there's no way in hell I'm spending 1 second researching cable companies, just so I can save a couple bucks a month. What I will reiterate is, if you think janky-*** Hulu is going to somehow upend anything AT&T has it's claws in, you're nuttier than anyone here thought you were.

No offense, but I heard Hulu was the Shasta Cola of streaming services.

Hulu isn't just some aww shucks startup that became a hit.

From the outset it has been a joint venture between huge media companies who are trying to beat the outsiders.

It's Disney, Fox, Comcast, and Time Warner vs AT&T. Not just "lil' old Hulu."

You sound like you support cops shooting black kids for just minding their own business. Why do you not like Hulu?

I don't care what it is, I'm all for more competition to possibly drive prices down...I got rid of direct tv because after the 1st year of my 2 year contract my price jumped from 35 to over 100, and somehow in a span of 6 months my price continually rose from 100 to over 150....and just kept going.... That's just ********...no way something should cost that much when I at max watch maybe 20 channels.... And that's on the high end.

yup, pretty much. major moves in the works with the bigger tech firms this year. things to watch out for: verizon repurposing yahoo as a media outlet hub like hulu and google buying a cell provider and delivering content directly to consumers. amazon has a quite a few deals lined up in the premium tv space. hulu vs. amazon is a battle to watch.

throughout all of this, we the consumer win. though, i do feel bad for all the cable companies that will likely have to pivot or shut down.

Will the customers who sign up for the promo price be locked in at that price or will it go up?

Won't be the death as long as the cable companies are the primary broadband ISPs and in many areas without any competition unless the government steps in and prevents data caps and protects net neutrality. Given what the administration will be starting in February, I'm not counting on it.
