CBSSportsline reporting Bobby may be top candidate for ASU now. Talk about a fast riser!

This I think would be awesome for both Hurley and ASU. It could be a great opportunity for Hurley to build ASU, especially against a team like Arizona.

IMO, this is not a great job for Hurley. In the tri-state area / ACC country, the Hurley name carries a lot of weight b/c of his career as a Duke star and b/c of his father / brother. I'm not sure whether that travels to Arizona, where he'd suddenly have to build his roster around kids from Arizona, Nevada, and California. I worry that he'd have an Andy Enfield-type situation where the team sucks initially b/c he didn't inherit much, and people start calling for his head by year 2 b/c it takes him a couple years to get going in west coast recruiting.

I don't know what Buffalo's team looks like for next year, but, if he's got another shot at the NCAAs, I'd probably stay and take my chances on garnering more interest from a decent east coast job -- either in the Big East, a high-level A-10 job, or certain big 10 jobs -- i.e., places like Seton Hall, Rutgers, Dayton (if Miller leaves), Temple (if Dunphy retires), etc. I'd also say the ACC, but not sure what his thoughts are on going up against Duke and Coach K.

Not sure if I think this fits Hurley or not, but I like seeing him garner interest from some bigger schools. That's never a bad thing.

I said it for Capel and it still applies to Hurley....I just don't think the ASU position is all that attractive. Aah gave some pretty reasons and I tend to agree with him. Right now Arizona is hot with UCLA and even Cal (under Cuonzo Martin) seemingly starting to come alive. And we all know it's not easy recruiting out west anyway.

aah:
I tend to agree with you...Hurley strikes me as an east coast guy, plus his Dad's connections couldn't hurt. I also like some of your speculated landing points for him. Rutgers would be very interesting...I never understood how they could be so bad for so long, and don't give me that "academics" crap. But building up Rutgers might be even more difficult than building up ASU.

Another Coach K's players climbing the ladder. I wonder where Bobby would be right now if he had started coaching 10 years ago? OFC

Obviously, hope it works out for me. What he's done to date has been really impressive.
