...but a guy named Ahrens that I admittedly have never heard of, and averages 2.1 points a game, put up 29 tonight in a huge win for OSU.

Rooting interests aside, I love that kind of stuff that comes with college basketball.

Iowa's defense has a way of turning otherwise pedestrian players into superstars. Ahrens had awesome game, though; reminded me a lot of Falzon's game vs. Indiana...

Fran showed his class once again last night:

After the game, according to the Toledo Blade and Columbus Dispatch, Fran McCaffery screamed, "You cheating m-----f-----! You're a f---ing disgrace!" at official Steve McJunkins as he pursued him down a hallway in Value City Arena.

He and his son both got T'd up during the game. He might have had a case on the bad calls, but like Dakich said in a prior game that's life in the B1G on the road. Fran is just a turd IMHO.

Which coaches do the Big Ten refs detest the most?

Fran is at the top. But CCC is not far behind.

I think the officiating is....different. I don't know if its the reliance on replay or a misguided group psychology that they need to be involved in the game....but the inconsistencies and overbearing nature of the officiating seems to be at a peak.

For me personally, I can deal with bad calls. There is a human element to basketball and I truly accept that bad calls are going to happen sometimes. What I'm starting to get pretty frustrated with is the amount of time spent on replays at the end of games. Spending two minutes at the TV monitor to put an extra .4 seconds on the clock is typically a waste of time. Going to the monitor on pretty much any ball that goes out of bounds under the hoop is a little bit excessive.

I like replay. I like making sure the call is right. But there is a line where the reliance on replay to get the call perfect starts to effect the game flow and the experience of playing/watching it, and I think we're right at that now. They need to figure out a way to be a little less reliant on replay late in games. And they definitely shouldn't allow teams to huddle up like it's a timeout when officials are at the monitor. The amount of times a team has no timeouts left and basically gets a free one or two at the end of a game because of replay is far too great.

Did you see the end of the Indiana-Wisconsin game last night? They kept going over to the monitor and it went on and on. It has gotten ridiculous.

You should have seen the end of the Tennessee/LSU game on Saturday. You had this fantastic game played at a very high level between two good teams and the end just drrrraaaggggeeedddd on because of constant replay reviews- a few that were completely unnecessary. Again, I believe in getting the call right, but there has to be a happy medium. That line between the value of replay and the negatives that come with it is one that is near being crossed.

Where does this CCC is disliked by the ref’s come from? I hear this a lot, but he is tame compared to some other BT coaches. Fran, Underwood, Chambers, Archie all immediately come to mind as Pain in the butts for officials. Turgeon and Miles are no picnic either.

The tech in Salt Lake City established a rep that he may never shake ...

We could use another one of those. He is close but just off on his shots. Him hitting would open things up a lot.

We generally tend to get not good officiating at home

... Fran is just a turd IMHO.

I think Fran's psychosis is EXTREMELY underrated in the modern history of B10 coaches. He's good for a red-faced, purse-swinging, hissy fit at least once every other game (to be generous). Such a tool.

He probably deserves to be on the Mt. Rushmore of consistently whinning, wacky B10 coaches in the last 30 or 40 years. Of course, Bob Knight is the father of that group. Then ... ?

I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two others, I think Fran is easily top four.

Fran would have been ejected after that call and would have challenged the official to a fistfight afterward. I've never gotten the ref hate for CC; he never shows up the refs like Fran and others in the conference do...
