I live in Greensboro and have been attending the ACC tourney thanks to good free tix through work. I thought I would share my observations. HAVING watched acc games occosionally on TV this season, I can tell you that I have been less impressed in person. Each of the better ACC teams have severe deficiencies that UK would exploit.
Specifically, I am least impressed with UVA, as they take too many chances doubling on the perimeter. UK would break the pressure and go up yop for easy lobs. The also have no mid range game so UK can apply pressure and let the bigs clean up drives to the rim.
Duke is talented for sure, but I was amazes at how dissappointed I was with Okafor last night, even as he approached 30 points. If KAT or WCS jogged back lazily on defense like that, Cal would never let them back on the court. Also, despite being down big, Duke showed very little fire and heart until it was too late. Also, I was shocked at how thin their bench is. UK would have them in foul trouble do fast.
The Irish play INCREDIBLE team basketball. I came away VERY impressed with their court awareness, especially in the first half. Much like Ullis' style, they have multiple players who play ONLY to set up their teammates, and they do it well. Still, UK can overpower their basically 4 guard lineup.
UNC looked solid against UVA and Jackson is playing with incredible confidence. However as we know, Meeks is foul prone and Janes is a far cry from Meeks when he's in. Lock down the perimeter and UNC has no chance against UK.
On a side note, fans have been very respectful of me rocking my Kentucky gear. UL fans were chirpy at first but shut up quickly after they were demoralized by UNC. A few fans have asked me if I missed my flight to Nashville, and my response is that "we've got that one under control"
Go big blue!!!
