If Coach Stoops can land someone like Eddie Gran as OC, it would be the single best hire in his short career. I have often felt that at least one of our coordinators should have some kind of experience and Eddie has plenty of it. When the crap starts rolling down hill and you've never had to stop it, it's always nice to have someone who has, and can adjust on the fly. The demeanor of someone who's been there can be infectious and very empowering to all those around him. If this hire happens it could change more than just a scheme, an entire mind set. I'm hoping this hire gets done more than any change to date. GBB!!![banana]:football:

Has Eddie Gran been a candidate for any head coaching jobs? Or is he a career assistant that we can count on being here for a few years if we adequately compensate him?

He has been an assistant since 1987. I don't knowing he has been up for any HC gigs but some people like being an assistant and not having the complete pressure of a program on their shoulders. 28 years as an assistant I would think he won't be leaving Lexington anytime soon if we get him unless it is if Stoops is let go in a few years.

Agree with you pickled. An inexperienced HC needs some gray hair on his staff to help the HC deal with things he's never been responsible for handling. I believe that more than anything else (yes, even more than the OL weaknesses, the drop passes, the inconsistent play out of Towles, etc), the lack of inexperience on the coaching staff from top to bottom was responsible for the underperformance by the Cats this past season.

I disagree strongly with those clamoring for Stoops to go. Heck, we've already "paid" for his training wheels period of becoming a head coach (and I do think we still have a couple of years to go with that period), so to me it would be nuts to get rid of him now, or even after next year if the Cats don't perform better. Learning how to become a successful head coach in the SEC at a program historically poor as UK's, isn't for the feint of heart.

If he can get Gran and replace Mainord with some more gray hair, I think you'll see everything perform a lot, lot smoother.

Don't know that he's ever been mentioned for head coach, but he's done just about everything else from running backs to special teams.

If he is thinking this, why go to UK?
Maybe because he believes in what Stoops is selling. I for one believe that with the talent that Stoops has brought in and is bringing in we have nowhere to go but up. He is a first time head coach and has to have some on the job training....sucks that we have to deal with it but you will never get a proven coach to come to UK and stay with any longevity. Stoops is a tireless worker and I honestly believe he has already/will be watching film in the off season not only to improve our play, but to see where his mistakes were made.

Stoops is recruiting s different level of talent to Lexington that we have never saw before. Mix that in with his passion and given time to build I believe we can compete in the East....no doubt.
