In the real world, you do a lousy job, you get fired, and you walk out the door with unused leave and maybe two weeks pay...

In the coaching world, the pay out i for doing a crummy job is almost the same as if you did a good job....how does that make sense? The whole thing is maddening. I don't mind paying for performance, but paying a tonne of money to someone who failed to do their job, is insane.

I get your point, but also in the real world your every move isn't scrutinized 24/7 and you don't have the majority of an entire state calling for you to be fired. The buyout is part of the incentive package to have a coach take a job. I would certainly argue that offering an buyout like we did to an unproven Power 5 coach was not wise, but I've received some benefits from my employer that are a bad deal for them as well.

We value entertainment- sports, movies, music- more than we do other arguably more important things. You raise someone's taxes $200 a year for better fire service and they'll protest. At the same time they'll throw down $200 on a concert without batting an eye.

We vote with our $ and we have spoken.

It's the cost and Risk of doing business in sports. Its not any different than paying a free agent big money to perform and he doesn't.
