Taking a step back, Pope left BYU who is now ranked 9th in the country with the #1 NBA draft pick.
Now is probably going to get fired from his dream job and his team is playing the worst basketball we've seen.
Like it's so bad I have to say I feel bad for him. He had to say Yes to our offer which shouldn't have even been made to him. The stars aligned for him and his family and in a short time all/any of the good has been flipped upside down and erased.
I can't imagine the stress he's under now and obviously he will monetarily benefit from the decision to coach Kentucky but damn, he's so far in over his head that he may need to step away and try to find another opportunity to support the university.
The decision to say "this is the guy" was a mistake made by our athletic leadership and simply a quick irrational way to fill a vacancy without probably any negotiation. I don't even blame Pope. If I was him I would've said hell yes to any offer Kentucky made. I blame the morons that put him there and for this disaster of a season and potentially a detriment to next year and beyond.
I also feel bad for all of the donors that support the bball program and worked hard to make the money to fund this s***. It's the biggest misuse of funds in college basketball.
I don't know what stage of grief I'm in at this point but I think the misuse of funds to assemble the entire basketball program has me in a different world now.
I feel like the donors should be compensated for this atrocity.
