I Feel Bad

Taking a step back, Pope left BYU who is now ranked 9th in the country with the #1 NBA draft pick.

Now is probably going to get fired from his dream job and his team is playing the worst basketball we've seen.

Like it's so bad I have to say I feel bad for him. He had to say Yes to our offer which shouldn't have even been made to him. The stars aligned for him and his family and in a short time all/any of the good has been flipped upside down and erased.

I can't imagine the stress he's under now and obviously he will monetarily benefit from the decision to coach Kentucky but damn, he's so far in over his head that he may need to step away and try to find another opportunity to support the university.

The decision to say "this is the guy" was a mistake made by our athletic leadership and simply a quick irrational way to fill a vacancy without probably any negotiation. I don't even blame Pope. If I was him I would've said hell yes to any offer Kentucky made. I blame the morons that put him there and for this disaster of a season and potentially a detriment to next year and beyond.

I also feel bad for all of the donors that support the bball program and worked hard to make the money to fund this s***. It's the biggest misuse of funds in college basketball.

I don't know what stage of grief I'm in at this point but I think the misuse of funds to assemble the entire basketball program has me in a different world now.

I feel like the donors should be compensated for this atrocity.

I didn’t read the whole OP post, but I couldn’t help but pulling for Pope to pull this game out. Not his fault Barnhart set him up. I freaking hate Barnhart.

I agree. I'm pointing the blame at anyone involved in the irrational decision to hire him. I truly believe our donors should be compensated in some sort of fashion and that our athletics department should take accountability and apologize if we don't make the NCAA tournament. It has to be one of the biggest misuse of funds in all of college sports.

I feel bad that this season has been abysmal so far and don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Basketball aside, this cannot be an easy time for CMP, his wife, and his girls. Yes, his family is probably set financially for life, but I am sure he yearns for the euphoria generated at his initial press conference.

Yet he, as the head coach, is ultimately responsible for the results along with the administration, coaching staff, and players. As a fan, I am not happy. As a Christian, I am going to pray for the Pope family to weather the avalanche of criticism that has already and will be coming their way. I hope others will join me and am confident that you will.

Disappointed but blessed!!!!
