Football is a man's sport.

Gotta admit, I'm not a fan of the bands either. Did see a few halftime performances by The Pride and A&M's band when they'd come to town, but usually I missed most of the halftime shows to get something to eat/drink and go to the head. However, I do like having them in the stands fire us up with Boomer Sooner and other great OU favorites during the game.

I did trade my trombone in for a guitar a long, long time ago...

Yeah that, probably not until around the holidays.
I'm hiring a producer that has a home studio and the whole bit.
Gonna be sweet!

Also, and this is cool as hell, pro PA system and that backing machine that you punch in the name of any popular song and voila! I've got an electronic 'band' with percussion to back me up.

Kind of like a karaoke on steroids.

Had to consult the stats for the name of the big baby Washington coach (James) that sidelined our mojo in the '84 Orange Bowl. Someone fill in the details as to how/why the Schooner & the ponies were kept off the field.

Too many people underestimate the physical and technical demands of good show bands. They have mad talent, endurance, and dedication.

Yep, I not so fondly remember marching a show in freezing rain, sleet.
All the while that stupid wool uniform, heavy laden with rainwater from sitting in it the whole first half. (at least I was freezing my nads off)

Ah, good times...:(

(incidentally, this was in the 60s, we didn't need no stinkin' ponchos!)

The gold standard of marching bands is Ohio State's. While A&M's band is large and impressive, OSU's is better. I'll watch script Ohio (which is amazing no matter how many times you've seen it) as well as the rest of their show because they're innovative, precise, and always musically excellent. I also say this as someone who doesn't particularly like their team, their fanbase, nor their coach.

True that Point, they are very tight and crisp.

I've always admired the all black colleges, (yes, they do exist) marching band programs.
Really high energy, innovative, and they do stuff us whiteys would never think of.

The OP, obviously, has never been in a competitive marching band. Try carrying a 25-30 pound drum, walking sideways at a fast walk while playing and moving for 15 minutes. Then you can tell me if you think it is a man's sport. I've been in high school, college and DCI. Those kids put forth just as much effort as any athlete.
