The wins and losses count. Bowl appearances and performances are big recruiting tools. Coaching incentives are often based on bowl appearances. The extra practice time is real (assuming coaches know how to run a practice). Plus you often have teams playing that normally don't face each other often....if ever. Finally, bowl season is the best time of the sports year. Kicks the crap out of March madness IMO.These bowl games are really nothing more than exhibition games which is why you can't put much stock in the results, but it's better TV than college hoops this time of year.
I LOVE THE BOWL BECAUSE I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!!!!The wins and losses count. Bowl appearances and performances are big recruiting tools. Coaching incentives are often based on bowl appearances. Something stupid, something stupid, DESERVES, something stupid, everybody gets a trophy, something stupid, something stupid.
IMO, has nothing to do with trophies. It's college Football JUST TO FILL AIR TIME AND SELL ADS...Sports alternatives right now are pretty slim: meaningless bball games, not only college but the nba is deplorable. NFL is okay. It's the sports season's last hurrah before heading off into hibernation until mid March.
You were 90% right, I fixed it for you.
Here is just one example, the FCS playoff game between Northern Iowa and North Dakota State drew 1.644 million viewers while the Texas upset over North Carolina in mens basketball drew 1.257 million viewers (per LHL today)
That being said, there are a number of conference commissioners and ADs that think there are way too many bowls which are a waste of time and money for the participants, leading to embarrassing "crowds" at largely empty stadiums. In short, they believe many of the games are meaningless made solely for TV entertainment.
Really? Not everyone deserves a trophy just like not everyone can go bowlingSomething stupid, something stupid, DESERVES, something stupid, everybody gets a trophy, something stupid, something stupid.
actually, I thought the BYU-Utah game was about the only bowl game before Christmas that was worth watching, both teams had good records, clearly deserved to be in a bowl, and obviously the game meant something important to each team.
I can't believe that a UK fan would make fun of any bowl game.
Well lets see a one of them put their nuts where their fat mouths are, and turn down a bowl offer & stay homeThat being said, there are a number of conference commissioners and ADs that think there are way too many bowls which are a waste of time and money for the participants, leading to embarrassing "crowds" at largely empty stadiums. Actually teams turning down bowl bids isn't that uncommon. Mizzou was one of the 5-7 teams that could have gone this year but turned it down. Louisiana Tech turned down a bid in 2012 when they were 9-3.Well lets see a one of them put their nuts where their fat mouths are, and turn down a bowl offer & stay home
think that's ever gonna happen?
love bowl games because I love the sport of American tackle college football, and want to view it as often as possible. and I am not alone, as these bowl games are each an individual business. businesses that don't make money go out of business and cease to exist. as the number of bowls is exploding I'd say they are making pretty good money supplying a product the public wishes to partake in.
