I think tonight was probably the poorest job of coaching this year....

We had the ball two times inside the 5 yard line, and the play calling was terrible both times.... The one field goal that we missed, it looked like (by the play calling) we played for a field goal attempt, instead of going for a TD.... Vandy gave us the game, but we just didn't reach out and take it...

Bringing Barker in got us going for a short time, but in the long run, he only took up time from an experienced QB.... Barker sparked us for a short time.... He got us 7 points, as the receivers actually caught some balls for him, but then he gave the TD back, because of his inexperience... So, 7-7=0, and all that happened was that he wasted time off the clock after that he threw the TD.... The coaches would have looked even worse bringing Towles straight back in after the Interception, but in the long run, we might have won the game....

Barker will be a good QB, I love the guy and see so much potential... I thought this was brilliant, until I saw with my own eyes that he wasn't ready... Not to read the defenses, blitzes, and zone reads.... This wasn't the time to give up on Towles, not with a bowl game riding on it..... The coaches compromised for the fans and they know it.... I hate to see coaches compromising.. They knew that Barker wasn't ready, but they pleased the fans by putting him in the game...... JMO

Ah so the loss was Barker's fault. Got you. We would won the game if only we wouldn't give up on the QB with the lowest rating in a century. After all it was the Oline and receivers fault right? But you are right tonight was not the night to give up on Towles. That was 2 months ago.

I can handle losing. We're still rebuilding so it's going to happen. What I can't handle is looking like The Bad News Bears. There's no excuse for some of the crap I saw today. It would have been comical were I not a UK fan. I've been urging patience and support for Stoops but this game was an eye opener for me.

Wrong

Just like this game and the 4 games before this one... Barker should have been playing and Towles sitting on the bench. How is a kid going to get experience when he is riding the pine when an inept QB is playing ahead of him? Give the kid the snaps to get experience to be a better QB, should have played the whole game. If he threw 2 INT's against Miss St then so be it because Towles did nothing. He does nothing every game. I'd rather have a Bret Farve under snap who is gonna throw an int every once in a while but put points on the board and move the football.

It's obvious that Towles does not provide any opportunity to win a game as he is a detriment to the on field success. The guys on the team do not play hard for him and it shows.
Favoritism is running rampant on this team along with piss poor coaching. Our staff looks like Towles does as a QB.

Towles made many more mistakes for an experienced QB.

-Throwing the ball into the corner of the Endzone SHORT on the fade. A play Coach Stoops said after the game that Patrick audibled into
-Sliding short of the 1st down marker on 3rd down
-Throwing the ball at the ankles of Baker on another crucial 3rd down.
-Getting sacked to end the game on a Hail Mary play
-Locking in on one receiver several times
-Holding onto the ball too long because he can't read the defense quick enough

At this point, Barker needs reps for next season.

Not one thing you mentioned leads me to "realize" how badly coached we were in this game.

What stood out to me was not going for 2 to make 21-18

The FG BS

The overall offensive play along

Personally I was ok with how the QBs were handled. Not sure what else we should have expected in Barkers first appearance? Couple great throws, one bad read and a few tuck and runs because things happened faster than he was ready for.

Felt the defense played great honestly except for a bogus HS play that was seriously all balls.

Still not sure what to do with the QBs, but if it was me I'd start Barker next week and guarantee him the first half no matter what. Both QBs should be able to beat acharlotte.

Stoops himself said it was his fault. And he wasn't just being protective of the players.

That's fine, but the OP basically said it was all about the QB situation. False!

It was a lot of things but that, IMHO, was handled exactly how it should have been.

Come on, people. Once Stoops gets his recruits in here we'll be rolling towards 6-6 every season. Keep the faith!

The fact that our team has no discipline and no attention to detail from the Coaching Staff to the players is the most irritating part of this season.

How many times are we going to get a block in the back on a punt return before it's corrected?
How many times are we going to fumble the ball before the coaches teach ball security?
How many times are we going to be incompetent on personnel and gametime decisions?
How many times are we going to use "youth" as an excuse for poor coaching and recognition?

These aspects of this staff have me beyond frustrated!!!

It wasn't just the coaching. I knew when we couldn't get it in the end-zone on two attempts from the one how the game was going to go. I'm disgusted. It's just the same ole same ole. Thank goodness it's basketball season. I hate that I feel that way, but it's just the truth. I'm not sure I'll be able to, but it wouldn't bother me to not give UK football another thought until next August. It's like we just hit the repeat button from last year. I think we beat Charlotte, but don't even want to know what happens against UL.

I agree completely . I feel the same way. I'm so disgusted watching this staff. It's a weekly comedy show. No coaching ability, game awareness or player development at all. I'd give anything to trade this bunch for a Mike Leach. Leach would get production out of this offense. I'm no longer in Stoops camp. I'm sick of buying season tickets and having high hopes of watching an improved team only to have it crushed by watching such incompetence.

I still support stoops. But I'd have to agree. The Vandy game rests completely on the coaches

The play that was completely on Stoops and was completely the wrong call was going for it on fourth down at midfield with a minute or so on the clock in the first half. It was 14-10 at that point and it was pretty clear that Vandy could not drive the field for a touchdown. He gave them half a field and they took advantage of it. Kentucky had been self-destructing at the end of the half on a regular basis and it was dumb to put them in that situation.

My main issues with coaching yesterday:

1. Vandy is known for their D. Not so much their offense. You had 1st and goal on the one. 3 attempts led to a 4th and one. Take the 3 points.

2. Same logic. 4th and short at midfield late in the first half. Punt the ball and pin them.

3. Call timeout to instead of taking delay of game on FG.

4. Switching back and forth the QBs. Seemed to confuse the whole team.

Turnovers, dropped passes, etc are mainly the fault of the players, but the had those 4 decisions not been made, we would have won the game despite player mistakes.

All that said. I do not jump off the Stoops train. I expect him to learn from his mistakes.

I agree that was terrible. Even worse was the disorganization that caused the play clock to run out in the first place.

Even with those, any SEC kicker should be able to hit a 37 yarder with shocking accuracy. Ours can too. But he just missed. Also I think his injury is still bothering him.

at first i thought the penalty was no big deal because maybe it gave him a better angle. but the lineman coming on late which led to the penalty is absolutely unacceptable. guy musta got too comfortable watching the game and forgot he was playing.

The coaching was some of the worst I've seen in a while. Its like the coaching staff is drunk during games. Making stupid decision after stupid decision.

Saw my first live UK FB game at the end of Blanton Collier era. Listened to or watched, live until recently, the vast majority of teams and coaches since.

Hate to pile on, but try as I might, I simply can't recall:

1. a team more fundamentally unsound as the teams from the Stoops era or
2. a coaching staff as unorganized in actual games as this staff has appeared to be the past several games.

Even the Mark Major defenses under Mumme, while perhaps more inept, were more organized on game day.

Absolute clown call by Stoops on that one.
