I used to think being a college football coach would be the best job

When I was younger, I couldn’t imagine anything better. Getting paid to coach college football.

Now, I’m not sure you could pay me enough. You have to CONSTANTLY recruit. Constantly recruiting uncommitted players. Constantly recruiting players who are already committed to you because being committed means nothing. And, if that’s not bad enough, now you have to recruit players who are already on your team or else they’ll hit the portal.

I just can’t imagine the grind. Begging and pleading with high schoolers 365 days a year.

Lot more to being a head coach than standing on the sideline
For sure. I mostly just couldn't bring myself to do the incessant recruiting. Particularly recruiting the guys you've already recruited just b/c they need to have their egos continually stroked and having to recruit guys on your team to keep them out of the portal.

Heck, the change in recruiting even burned SOS out.

You still haven't mentioned the pain in the arse coaches deal with regarding boosters and the media -- that's probably as bad as the post-signing portal retention/recruiting.

Entertainment, which is what sports is, pays.

The best job in the world is to be an actor or actress. You get paid very well for being able to memorize lines and pretend to be someone else, who may be entirely different from your actual self.
