If he could have stayed do you think the defense is this bad, even with Rojas out?

People are forgetting that in Knowles first year at Ohio State, they struggled a lot. Apparently, it’s a complicated scheme to learn and takes some time.

Ohio State fans claim Day forced him to change his defense. He started playing soft there like we're doing and it didn't work. Doesn't make it true but it makes sense. I've never seen any defense play that soft early in games allowing the opposing QB to get comfortable and be in rhythm.

Its not one game. It is every game since Rojas went out. So far 2 and there will be more because I dont know how you fix this problem.
This also isnt a scheme issue. Tfrank mentioned that knowles even dumbed down the scheme and it caused other issues cause guys just arent executing or other teams gash them in other ways. So its an execution and personnel issue. We dont have the right people and we are thin at key spots. We are not playing with an aggressive mentality.

Then he shouldn’t have been hired in a year when they returned so many starters. Should’ve matched Clemson’s offer to Tom Allen. The continuity would have been much better than the crap we’re seeing now

You're counting just UCLA? Penn State defense had ZERO 3 downs and out vs Northwestern. Gave up a 4th Quarter lead with a long drive.
They basically gave up 15 points. Then add the td for a 10 yard drive. Now let’s talk how inept the offense was…

The offense has been inept but I think the defense has had only one 3 and out since the end of regulation against Oregon (uclas final possession).

That was a major problem. Too many recruits, especially lineman and LBers were too light and lacked strength (even into 2nd/3rd year), some struggled to put on weight so they weren't ready for B1G play.
It’s funny because Miami started the mode of playing safeties at linebackers for speed, but their defense this season is big and nasty. PSU needs to start recruiting space eaters like Casey Hampton at d-tackle and linebackers who can carry 250 lbs and still run. The defense this season even when Rojas played is ridiculously small and light, especially for a Big 10 team.

Hindsight 20/20. If they wouldn’t have went after him with the DC position being open, people would have bitched about that too. If they would have given Allen more to stay, people would have bitched about that. Remember when Allen was hired…people complained. Only thing that is constant….the complaining. I can’t wait to see the complaints on here about the new coaches, staff, players, etc.

You do realize how rare a Casey Hampton is, right? The Steelers have been unsuccessfully trying to replace him since he retired. It’s even harder predicting a player like that out of high school. Do you remember when they got bigger DTs like Fred Hansard and everybody complained that he was slow off of the ball? If it was that easy, every team would have a Casey Hampton.

How do you know that they didn’t try? Frankly, I don’t give a royal rat’s you know what about what Tom Allen thinks. Is Clemson ranked this year?
