I would take two straight NITs if it meant we got 40-0 this year

Who else would? I'd gladly do it. 40-0 is a memory of a lifetime and I would welcome throwing away two seasons of mediocre results if we got to celebrate #9 in an epic fashion.

I'd take 0-40 next year just to see the look on Bobby Knight's face if we go 40-0 this year.

I know 0-40 is impossible. lol

it's easier to say that than actually go through with it.

because you and i both know...we won't go 2 straight NITs.

Yeah, but there is a chance the basketball gods are listening to me and are like "Oh, cool. That's a fair trade."

I would take 3 straight NIT season's or 2 seasons of only 15 wins and no NIT.. heck I'd take Cal leaving for the NBA and us getting Billy G back for 2 years just to go 40-0

Then you are not the 'UK Fan" that the media is always saying, "Expects an NCAA Championship every year". Good for you, I guess.

we all know that would not have been the tune that any of us would have sang last year had things gone terribly awry...

it would have been pandemonium on here...and the tune would have sounded more like the following:

"faaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr john calipari..."

"he can take his yankee carpet bagging butt, his OAD primadonnas, and his book back north..."

"hell tubby couldn't manage 1 NIT while here..."

"Mitch needs to go, this is on him..."

Negative. How about we finish 40-0 or 39-1....win the national championship and then start again next year with the best coach in the business having us competitive again.

I'll put it this way. If the choice was 39-1 national championship this year and next or 40-0 this year and NIT next year, I take 40-0. Perfect season is so special, it would be worth it to me.

Yup. 40-0 is not as important to me as #9 and winning with consistency. I would take 39-1 rather than having to wait 3 years for some meaningful basketball.

I might sacrifice one year for 40-0, but I don't want two. It sucked going to that 2013 NIT, but with the loss of Noel and how bad that team was playing, I was ready for that season to end. I wouldn't want to go through that back to back. I don't want to feel like an IU fan with all those down years.

Here's how I see it. I will take an undefeated and an NIT next year (no 2 years) UNLESS I knew we could go 39-1 this year and win it all next year. Hell I think lots of us would trade a championship followed by an nit anytime.

I don't know if I could stand two straight NIT seasons. We didn't do that poorly in our schools history that I recall (have we)? I could settle for 20 to 25 win back to back seasons with a second round to sweet sixteen exit. But back to back NIT? You call that mediocre by our standards? Just give me 39-1 and #9 with no season sacrifices. I think I would rather have that.

So make it to SEC championship and lose then run the table in the NCAA tournament all without missing a beat the following years.

I get that 40-0 is huge, I want it bad but there are certain prices I wouldn't pay.

This is interesting. Several weeks ago, I posted essentially the same topic, and got crucified for suggesting that anything other than championships is important to UK.

I wonder why there seems to be such a change in attitude. Perhaps, now that 40-0 seems like an attainable goal, people are looking at it more seriously.

How about no? I just want to see #9 raised to the rafters this year and pursuit of #10 to begin as quickly as possible.

Re: POLL: POLL:Which is more important?
The questions are not the same. You were asking if people would rather go undefeated this year, or win multiple titles. 99% (should be 100%) of UK fans (or any fan of any team) is taking Kentucky winning multiple titles.

Just go for the whole thing: WCS surprises again and comes back, as well as KAT and Lyles; Poy returns to full strength enroute to winning every major national player award, finally fulfilling his talent promise; Kentucky doesn't just beat teams, but most give up at halftime, refusing to return to the court when often held pointless. Kentucky is so good that the NCAA gives them an automatic bid to the Final Four. Once the title is acquired, they are presented with a special solid gold trophy and Cal's face is tattooed on Bobby Knights bloated corpse.

Nope. 40-0 with a title would likely stand a long time, but what I want, what I expect, what I have seen for just as long a time now is consistent excellence whether it results in that title or not. One, count it one, losing season since 1927, and that when a low, very dark cloud of impending NCAA sanctions hung over the team and program. When the field was expanded in '85 I told friends UK would never again fail to make the NCAA tournament. That's how I view UK basketball. 40-0 is unheard of, titles rare, and consistent excellence isn't the norm, but not for UK. I would not trade that for 40-0.

Sorry op, stupid premise....winning begets winning, and I want it all every year! And I expect it every year because I cheer for the best college basketball program in the history of the sport! Go Cats!!!

For me, hoisting #9 would suffice my demands for at least a few seasons before I turned back to full-blown obsessive mode.

A 9th national title is something I didn't foresee during the Gillispie years or the end of the Tubby years, not for at least 20 or 25 years down the road. That's how utterly discouraged I was. To watch these kids earn #9 this spring...well, that would be a huge deal and one that I would savor for a long, long time as a fan.

Put it this way: If Ky goes 39-1 (losing in the finals) to a 16 seed team with a final record of 21-19 (winning the nc), the team that wins the nc has the successful season.

Focusing on being undefeated is like car shopping for a sixteen year old.....the stereo is the main concern.

I wouldn't in a million years. I guess an undefeated season just doesn't mean that much to me. I want the title first and foremost and I want UK competitive each year, not NIT bound.
