Ichiro hit totals

So it looks like the media / baseball is going to make a big deal out Ichiro's combined hit total soon surpassing Pete Rose all time hits and yet he won't have reached MLB's 3000 hit club (although he soon after will). But what will that mean? Do we need to start counting the hit totals for MLB players that have swung a bat in Japan? Seems pretty ridiculous on many levels.

IMO...That's like counting a guys hits at AAA ball. I know Japan may be slightly higher caliber, but it's not like facing major league pitching everyday.

I think Ichiro is a HOF player based on his MLB career. I have no problem stating his Japanese stats as an asterisk, but they shouldn't be combined.
