There’s lots of coaches out there who thrives under the pressure. They love it, they seek it out. That’s the kind of coach Kentucky needs. A coach’s past record is only so important if you can’t manage the fans, boosters and the media’s high expectations. And guys like Dusty May might not be able to thrive under that pressure. If he cannot then he’s not worth trying to hire him.
You go after that kind of coach. Pitino and Calipari (in his first 10 years) were type of men who thrived here because they were that type of coach. Pope isn’t. Neither was Billy G nor Tubby.
He won’t last at UK. The coach at UK needs to have a massive ego and has to be a personality. That’s what it takes to manage BBN. That’s either Bruce Pearl who would crawl over broken glass to coach UK for 6-7 million a year. Or nate Oates you pay more because he would bring a team with him. He’s 7-10 million. Oates I would be willing to make him the highest paid coach. UK is a legit blueblood. Give a little education on what UK does for coaches and pay nate Oates big money.
If you remove any previous assumptions of Bruce Pearl and look only at his coaching accomplishments, they are exactly what the prerequisites for a UK should be. 2 final fours and won his league multiple times.
You have zero nba guys on your list which has to be a consideration after what young has done at byu. Honestly I could care less if it were Vogel but reaching to the nba like we did with pitino wouldn’t be a bad option and expands the list tremendously. Don’t bank on Barney though having the ability to approach these guys. Barney takes no for an answer. A great ad breaks through any objections and goes out of their comfort zone to find the right hire. Barney takes the first no and you can’t do that if you’re a steward of the all time winningest cbb team. Barney though is a steward of nothing and honestly no one is going to coach with him as ad. His reputation is ruined. Hes been the AD for 4 coaches and it’s evident he puts restrictions on what can be done. When it’s the Wild West like it is right now no one likes a dud. And Barney is a dud.
I’d rather keep Pope than have most of the names mentioned here.

Lloyd, Sean Miller, or Otzelberger are no where near Kentucky caliber coaches.
Go to Tuscaloosa and do not leave until Oats signs a contract to be the next coach at UK. That’s what we should have done 2 years ago

And that man would be hungry for a title. I would be concerned that Pearl drops dead in a game he gets so hyped up he could stroke out. Especially coaching at UK
Fact is, there were multiple better coaches. Why did Mark Pope EVER get a call from UK? Nate Oats should be on our sideline right now. That job search was totally fumbled.
Wish UK uppers looked at it and loved Kentucky basketball like the millions of UK fans do.
