Not going that far. They are a different team for sure but need to see more than one game and see how the team as a whole performs on the road in SEC play before any projections are cast. They would be far better than the sub .500 record I had projected for them but winning the SEC? Not going there at this time.

Maybe. However, not very encouraging that Lowe doesn’t play at all against Bellarmine, and JQ plays just 8 minutes. I would think that you would want to ramp up their minutes, for game shape, and sharpness purposes.

My guess is that Pope is being super conservative on injuries. I do agree. They do need more minutes. Both need to start and play at the very least 20 minutes a game, no less.

We can't have slow starts. It appears we are a 2nd half team this year so far.

Which harms us more than good.

The slow starts is what gets you beaten a lot of times. I guess I can at least understand sitting Lowe against an opponent like Bellarmine, because of the nature of his shoulder, which is going to be an on again, off again problem.

I understand nothing about playing JQ just 8 minutes, after he played 18 in his debut 3 days earlier. JQ has to get in game shape, to where he can play 30 minutes or so. His injury is completely healed, which means he has no higher chance of getting hurt, than any other player.

Zero reason to only play him 8 minutes. That’s just stupid.

JQ may have had a little soreness or swelling. How can we as fans think we know more than Coach Pope about a kid's playing time. It is very difficult to know much about a player's health from our sofa watching the game on TV or listening on the radio.

I thought Pope had learned the lesson that he has a smash mouth basketball team, not a finesse team. But I'm not sure. JJ, Noah, Chandler don't really fit into what the new identity smash mouth team, but they got plenty of minutes yesterday. Pope might still be just thowing darts at the board blindfolded, hoping for a bullseye. So I can't make any predictions where they finish in the SEC

Its going to take JQ a little more time I think to get into full rhythm. And Lowe still isnt 100% imo, and might not be all season.

Best team in SEC with those two healthy.

Our best 5 must start to buck this slow start trend IMO. Lowe definitely has to start. No reason to not start JQ, as well, at this point.

I think this is just keeping them happy, plus this was a small fast team. He wanted to play smaller guys that could shoot against the zone.
I think Cal would have struggled with this team all the way to the last few possesions.
They fought very hard with our entry passes and we struggle to do it anyways.

Good insight. It is nice to read that you can't make any predictions where we finish in the SEC. You can't, I certainly can't, and I doubt Coach Pope can. There is a huge difference in actually predicting compared wishing and hoping. I can easily state that I think we will win the SEC but that is a wish & a hope, not a prediction.

People are so hot and cold. One good half doesn’t mean anything. I’m not trying to be negative but how do you guys deal with the disappointment after jacking yourself up for no reason. This team is poorly constructed. We don’t run offense well . One half doesn’t dispel our history to this point. Give it at least a whole game at full strength before proclaiming us SEC champs.

Seems like a big if to me with Lowe at least.

We aren't good enough without him to win it. How many sec games he plays n will determine our chances.

Hard to tell with popes minute distributions what they will play regardless of healthy.

no reason Lowe is not starting, it’s like Cals insanity with starting edwards and Wagner.

I think just the opposite. Reminds meof how Roy Williams would sit guys with even minor injuries in unimportant games. Heck he'd willingly lose the ACC tournament just to ensure a starter was as healthy as possible for the NCAA tournament.

You can ramp up their minutes in practice to keep them ready. But against Bellarmine you can't control what the Bellarmine players do. One wrong swing on Lowe's shoulder, one careless player diving for the ball at JQ's knees...

Roy Williams won three natties, not a bad guy to follow example from. So I’m with you 👍

Actually, you’re wrong about JQ being more at risk of injuring his knee than any other player.
He‘s 100% healed.

And like I said, I can somewhat understand sitting Lowe against Bellarmine. However, there are no more cupcakes left now. Zero. Let’s see how it all plays out.
