Some of these with no moderation would have been a hoot.

I limited it to some things I could think of in my lifetime. The moon landing makes it by about a year.

I was stationed in Turkey during the moon landing. There was a major flu epidemic in the mountain villages with a lot of folks dying. The mountain people thought our landing stirred up germs that fell to earth, so they blamed us. There was an international fair going on in Izmir. The American exhibit was an outdoor theater showing the moon landing. That is where I first heard about it.

I would guess that a Vietnam War page would easily outnumber any of the above.
Fair enough so I added it. I had kind of grouped it with Watergate and Nixon resigns. I replaced Nixon with Vietnam.

Well to be honest, Vietnam would have a huge advantage given how long it lasted.
Funny how that and the race for the moon coincided. I know we landed on the moon. I 100% think Neil Armstrong was on the moon. I also believe that if they knew he couldn't, they would have faked it and let him "die" coming back.

Vietnam with 9/11 as a distant second.

How about the Iran Hostage Crisis? I’d bet that would have stirred the pot.

Whichever one has race in it because that is the nectar of the Gods around here so I voted OJ.

I'm sorry but it looks really bizarre seeing The Passion of the Christ on any list that includes 9/11, the Vietnam War, the moon landing, and Watergate.

I'd have a write in and say Reggie Love tbag incident. That one would have been even better if it didn't happen in the middle of the night and got zapped by a mod early in the morning.

Passion of the Christ movie discussion on the forum . . . 90% on here would be claiming the crucifixion of Jesus was a false flag operation orchestrated by Antifa and the Romans were set up.

Watergate by a mile. 90% here would be circle jerking saying Nixon is a gift from God.
The absolute irony, re: Dick Nixon is, that by any objective measure, he was one of the most progressive Presidents in post WWII American history. LBJ was the guy that started most of the stuff that made Nixon so unpopular with the left BEFORE Watergate. And, by DC standards, Watergate is a mere mosquito bite when compared to the crap that has gone on before or since. I've never understood the hand-wringing over what was, at the end of the day, much ado about nothing.

This board (or at least some form of it) WAS active on 9/11, wasn't it? I know I was posting on UK boards as early as 1998 or so and migrated over here after the old AOL boards became a joke.

I honestly don't remember. I was thinking it was around 2001 when it started here. It says I've been here since 2002 but I know its been wrong in the past and may have been earlier. I know before that I was posting on Rainman's Wildcat Chat or whatever it was called until it came here. I was on that I think in the late 90's for sure. Before that I was on the AOL board around 96.

I think there would have been plenty of diverse opinions and discussion relating to OJ. Now I think everyone just acknowledges that he did it. But, he was acquitted, so like Beard at Texas, he should have kept his job and still be on football broadcasts.

On December 31, 1970 President Nixon signed the Clean Air Act into law. You can actually see the difference in Eastern Red Cedar tree rings, I read. Along with the bad in Nixon there was tremendous good squandered.

Same act created the EPA which was badly needed at the time (still is, although like most fed agencies, it does have its excesses); ended US involvement in Vietnam War; opened relations with China to name a few.

But even Barry Goldwater told him he had to resign, no way he had enough votes (few if any) to avoid being impeached. Nixon was his own worst enemy, and surrounded himself with bad actors, which is a shame, because in a lot of ways, he was a very effective president.

Vietnam.

Olds would be touting the virtues of mandatory military service

Youngs would be against the concept of fighting a war we didn’t have any business being in.

Olds would call young’s worthlessness. Youngs would call olds old.

9/11 is my vote. I'm not old enough for Pearl Harbor or Vietnam but I would say a thread about an attack on American soil involving terrorists, hijacking, mass civilian casualties, live TV, religion and conspiracy theories would go on forever.

Still the most impactful day of my life, was 21 y/o and at UK- watched the damn thing happen live...horrific. RIP to all those directly impacted.

My mom has always said that. She was very fond of Nixon.
