If you could build a NFL team around any player past or present, who would you draft?

Tom Brady. He's the best to have ever done it at the most important position on a team. Brady wasn't just a stat filler but he was clearly a leader who required that his teammates elevate their play to a championship level.

I’m with steel man on this one. Marino’s supporting cast was a bunch of nobody’s. Mark Duper and Mark Clayton at WR, guys named Mark Riggs and Lorenzo Hampton at RB. Like seriously other than Keith Jackson at TE and Irving Fryar for a couple of years - Marino had a cast of odds and ends like Brady. Ben had a much better roster around him and that’s not even debatable. Dolphins defense vs Steelers…..come on. The only place where you even have an argument is Shula vs Tomlin/Cowher

Also required his footballs to be a bit deflated.

That has to be the worst take I have ever heard. Marino is head and shoulders better than Ben. He played 30 years before Ben when the game was run first. Has about 100 more touchdown passes than Ben. Give him a top 10 defense he wins multiple Superbowls.

Go light one.

Better question may be what non-QB. Someone said Munoz, so I would go with Ogden at tackle. On defense, since white and Taylor got mentioned, Ed Reed.

Ted Hendricks would be a LB that could play in any era.

Not the answer to this question but flat out the best football player I’ve ever seen is Darrell Green. Then Jerry Rice.

Compare Marino's stats to Big Ben's stats. Big Ben was superior to Marino in every way and Marino played with the best talent and the best NFL coach for most of this career. Marino was grossly over-rated.
Best talent? Other than no running game whatsoever and no defense, they were great. Marino is the only reason those teams ever won anything…see the Dolphins every year since Marino left.

San Francisco thought so when they built a team around him.
And then benched him and won a SB shortly after he was gone. Sorry, no one benches a QB is he was “the greatest ever”.

It's almost impossible to compare QBs from different eras but if you put Marino in his prime of those Steelers teams I believe he'd have more success
We forget the running and scrambling ability of Ben in his first 8? Years was just ridiculous. where Dan just stood there and passed it for the most part. This is what made ben such a good qb and defenses had to defend against it.

All fair which is why I'm taking Elway but Marino never had the supporting cast that Ben did

still the question remains who do you build around, Montana is who I pick and Bill Walsh wasn't stupid

By 1990 dolphins were good and went 12-4. But they went against bad timing in the bills making their run. They couldn’t break through.
Saying that, Steelers went against ravens and patriots and broke through several times. Steelers players were very good.

I think those Steelers teams were far superior and often underachieved

There have been a number of QB’s you could build a team around as long as you actually build the team and not overlook things like your running game or your defense because your QB is so good at passing, like Miami did with Marino.
