If you were Ryan Young…

What do you think would be going through your mind after today’s game?

Have not seen how many minutes he played. Can’t believe it was more than 10

You are thinking "When I'm out there, we outscore them."
"I was kicking their as*es in the post"
"Why is Beran playing?"
"Why is Williams playing?"
"What is coach doing?"
"Why is Ty Berry sitting next to me?"

That if I made both of my free throws in the first half, we would have won the game in regulation.

(Kidding. I agree with your point.)

Just saw he played 16 min and not 10. In a 45 min game. When the coach believes you are not compatible with the best player on the team you are bound to not play a lot. Nance played 45-16

Its obscene.
Williams and Young have been working well together, so Collins sees "Hey Williams has 8 points! I think I'll bench my 2nd best player."

Forgetting the Young part, it made zero sense to bench Williams. Just like it made zero sense to have Roper out there instead of Berry.

Greer was there for being the most seasoned option available. But even he missed a bunny and shot a 3 with such visible tension that he clearly did not want the ball in his hands.

Think the fact Simmons didn’t play late was puzzling. Our best wing defender without Auduge imo. He should’ve been on that Williams kid who beat whoever was guarding him off the dribble just about every time.

Then why doesnt he play much? Only other reason might be that collins is saving him for the bigten.
Collins does not understand his roster.
His approach to the game does not fit his personnel.
He wrongly believes that Nance is a center, when he is clearly a 4.
So he refuses to play Young at the 5, even though Young is better at the 5 than Nance is.

And somehow he thinks Robbie Beran is better than Young.

Beran is currently horrible. Investing in players isnt a thing now that they can transfer. Currently beran is awful. Allowing him to gain experience doesnt guarantee he will stick around next year.

If I were Young, I'd be thinking I knew better about what was going on with my playing time than frustrated folks outside the loop on a message bored, and I probably wouldn't be worried about it.

Look, I think Collins is a really lousy coach. But he probably knows his roster better than anyone on the internet.

And George Custer knew his soldiers better than any other general.
They may have even been rather talented and effectively trained.
But Custer's deployment was, lets say, ineffective.

I'm all for the idea that the poorly-managed rotation is a dumb and simple talking point.

However, not playing Young or the Young/Eliyjah combo for even 30 seconds in the last 10 minutes of the game is really questionable. Every time the team came back last night, it was with 15, 21, 5, 2 and one more.

Collins may not like it, but for one evening, that was his best group. He was stubborn and ignorant not to acknowledge some reasonable mix of that group.

For me, it's a blockhead, lack of flexibility I see too often in his coaching.

And many others that win them. Hey maybe he should have played Nicholson instead!
How in the world can you expect him to recognize any value in Nicholson when he has Ryan Young sitting on the bench? Collins gives games away!

Last night, while Ty Berry was sitting on the bench, having made 3 of 5 three pointers, the TV broadcasters just kept saying "Roper can't handle Alondes Williams." Roper made 1 of 7 shots last night. It was also apparent that Robbie Beran could not handle Jake LaRavia.

We got outscored 12-4 when Beran and Roper were on the court together in OT.

He did the opposite of good game coaching and going with the hot hand. Beran starts out pretty hot and seems like he might have a game - off to the bench. Boo can't hit water falling out of a boat and keeps jacking them up, he stays on the floor. Berry seemed to also be having a good night - so he benches him too. WF beefcakes muscle Nance around, but Young holds his weight - Williams too a bit. I really thought you needed beef on the floor last night.

I watched the game. I was impressed - they are better than I thought. Beran has me rethinking my criticism. I am now convinced that we have a coaching problem. I think we have the horses. We should have won that game. I think watching this game raises my expectations. These guys have enough good horses that a couple will get hot on any given night. There should not be the long stretches like in the first half without scoring - that means the wrong horse is in the race.

CCC doesn't need to be fired. He needs to find an assistant coach with strong in game coaching skills and let that person take the reigns.

Stubborn, arrogant and entitled appear to be the prerequisites to coach a NU team.

For folks like you and PPD, I hope MN lights it up whenever he gets to play regularly. Whether here or elsewhere, I am now among his biggest fans. You best hope he is another flub - because if not, I will bury the Board in his stats and CCC's decisions.

To answer your question, maybe he was exploring the portal since he knew he would not be used and would be wasting his time at the end of the bench 🤷‍♂️ Since we can't field a full scholarship team in any year under CCC - seems smart to me to run off guys. Saves the school more money to waste on overpaid, underperforming coaches. Cheers

Hey, Bob you actually want someone from NU to do good. Looks like I’ve done my job and drove you to the bright side. I hope MN lights it up too. Would rather have you blast me for months than listen to your drivel about joining the Ivy League. Rest assured there is a long line here on the free board lining up to blast. Badge of Honor buddy.

BTW, where have you been? Haven’t seen you at any games the last few years? Been saving my NU trinkets in case Lara or a new Lara wants them. Least I could do for you!

Yes he was at the game.
Fun fact about Nicholson.
When he came to NU he was rated the 6th best player out of Michigan.
The next year, Julian Roper came to NU as the 4th best player out of Michigan.

Since everybody knows Collins is infallible, its hard to believe that the rating services could be so far off.

Lara moved on, covid hit and we have not been good since. Believe me, I want to travel. I go for multi engine before Xmas and have been plane shipping for awhile. Bigger, faster, more range - I want nothing more than to invite a crew from the board to join me at a bowl game in Pasadena or a tourney game somewhere warm. Like any true fan, I want, expect my team to win. PF and CCC are seemingly working harder to keep me away. I really hope to grab HJ, willy and gcg and take them somewhere for a game (I think you live away from Chicago though there will be one more seat). Can you imagine a better manifest?

You’re right. We 1000% have the horses and it’s a coaching problem. How the hell you have Young and Berry stapled to the bunch bewilders me.

It’s almost like he has some rotation plan that he sticks with no matter what the actual game demonstrates. It’s really weird

This game was lost because we missed a huge number of layups (any team you watch miss as many as we seem to?) and Nance was 6/19? This team has lots of options so we don’t need someone to play hero ball when they go cold

Things going right...
Williams and Young seem to be clicking. (51-34)
Buie and Greer seem to be clicking. (114-88)

Things going wrong...
Beran with Nance (this has been going wrong for over a year... 88-109)
Neither Roper nor Simmons has stepped up to claim the 3 position (small forward).

One incredible stat...
When Berry has played the 3, with Buie and Greer at the guard spots, we have outscored our last 3 opponents 21 - 3 in just under 6 minutes of action.
