Carolina beats OU this Saturday. Here is why:

1. OU has not beaten a ranked opponent all season. The one ranked opponent they faced destroyed them.
2. If not for bad officiating (acknowledged by the SEC for its errors) OU would have likely lost to Auburn.
3. Venables has proven himself to not be a good head coach.
4. Mateer's injury is obviously not healed and is affecting his throwing and fear of aggravating the injury prevents him from being a true running threat.

The OU defense is better than it has been but it isn't dominant. I think Carolina can move the ball and score unless they shoot themselves in the foot.

I like it.

I see a low scoring, defensive battle. One TO or ST mishap could be the difference.

I would think a one score game.

OL play will improve if they don't let guys through the line unblocked. Too many times they are looking to double team or look confused letting a DL run untouched to the QB. Also need help from the RB. And maybe throw a RB screen or 2 in there. Geez keep the DC honest and not just blitz or send additional LB.

I think the OL improves just enough under new tutelage to make a slight difference and the D holds on.

I will be surprised if our offense scores a td. Hope I am wrong

We usually have a pretty decent 1st series that carries into a second series. I think its the 2nd or 3rd offensive TD that I'm worried about.

As I stated earlier in the week, I could see it. It might be the last time I can see it in the SEC this year.

Excellent post for some conspiring.

Stated a couple times elsewhere that an upset win is on the table at some point in a conference game. OU is the most likely candidate so let’s say it happens, it still looks like a 5-7 year.

Losing to SC has been a death knell for opposing coaches (full disclosure I don’t recall who outside of UF Muschamp, maybe y’all can help me out here). This would not get Venebles fired but would be a big contribution to pushing him out if they have another season around .500. In that event, if they give him 2026, if he doesn’t get at least 8 wins he’s probably done.

Beamer is getting a 2026 no matter what. But another sub .500 season and he should (emphasis on should) be gone. If there’s not a 2026 version of 2024 LaNorris Sellers then it’s another losing season.

Which means this game could be the catalyst to get Venables to Columbia as DC under the next HC.

I didn’t really have time for all that.

I will be watching the oline. If they can eliminate the mistakes (penalties) and give us room to run the ball I see us winning.

Spurrier was responsible for Fulmer getting the heave ho at Tenn. Maybe Hoke at Michigan and Pellini at Nebraska too.

A loss to Carolina and OU likely drops out of the top 25. This was supposed to be the season Venables put it all together at OU and they at least competed for the SEC and a playoff spot. A loss to a 3-3 South Carolina and being out of the top might be enough to seal Venables fate. We are really their last game where they will be fully expected to win. After us; they have Ole Miss, Tenn, Bama, Missouri and LSU. A loss to us and they have to win 3 of those to have 8 wins on the season.

I doubt Venables would come to Carolina.

I think we will see improvement from the OL this week and most weeks going forward.
I sure hope you're right.

My fear is we'll see SLIGHT improvement and Beamer will just give the job to Elliott full time instead of going out for a serious OL coach.

Now if Elliott can step in make it a night and day difference, that's ok with me then. To keep Elliott permanently, I'd want to see week-over-week improvement the rest of the way.

They stuffed us numerous times today when we only needed 1 yard. We've never done that. In fact, we couldn't even do that against SC State this year. Partly because we've never played against an offense that is as inept as ours.
