Imagine losing in the SECT finals. Is that all bad?

I am really hoping for 40-0 at this point, lets get that out of the way.

Having said that, losing the last game of the SECT to a desperate team trying to get in the tourney (ala Georgia of years ago), would also take a HUGE weight off their shoulders.

Yes, the SEC tourney will be 0-4 but having gone undefeated in the SEC all year by an average of 21+ points kinda makes any counter argument moot.

Plus it would be too late to impact any seedings and would give the team a complete new reason to refocus for the 6 game stretch after their blooper (tough loss to Florida last year ended up being the catalyst as well)

We would already have an undefeated regular season technically and a title as well if we win #9.... so win/win in that respect.
I would have loved to see Bobby Knight see his record tumble while he was still alive....

This is conjecture and the standard what/if scenario, but should this happen as above, I for one might even exhale a bit before the tourney.

I have been nervous as hell with the streak all year and it was hard to enjoy it towards the end with the pressure/fun of a unbeaten record in the face of the haters.

But, I dunno...my attention is now on #9 only and I am not sure how to take the SECT now that the season is over unblemished...even Cal is really trying to stay interested in the 3 in a row situation .."just for the fans"....

No. I don't care about the SEC tournament. The undefeated record is going to force me to care. While it may piss off some of our fans, Calipari nailed this one years ago. What do you remember more about 2010, is it beating Mississippi State or losing to WVU in the E8? Exactly.

I wasn't on this board at the time, but I've never cared that much about the conference tournament. I sorta did during the Tubby years because it was the biggest thing we would accomplish all season.

If we are going to lose in the SECT I'd rather it be on Saturday. Go home and get an extra day's rest.

Agreed. You can bet that our Sat game against either A&M or LSU will be amped up because a win for either of those teams against us guarantees them a spot in the NCAAT. If we lose a game in the tourney, that will be the one that we lose for that reason alone. If we make it to the championship game on Sunday, we aren't losing as our guys will want to finish the job.

^^^ This, all day long^^^

And I hope we lose to Florida or Alabama or Mississippi state. And then they lose the next game. I do not want to help one of these only try hard when we play Kentucky teams get in the tournament or better their seed if they make it.

If LSU can't get up to beat Tennessee at home, they sure as **** better not use breaking our streak to bump themselves up to whopping 8 seed.

Ugh. Now just the idea of breaking our streak to any of these jack a ninnies makes by blood boil. None of them give a damn about the sport and they don't deserve another shot to try. Hell, I'd rather lose to #16 Albany in the first round. At least I know they would go out and give the same effort in the next game.

I want to run the table. This obsession with taking a loss before the NCAA tourney is ridiculous.

No one matches up with you physically. Even on an off night you still win.

I don't really want to take a loss. I really really really that stupid Indiana streak to end in Bobby's lifetime and being his nemesis Calipari is an added bonus.

But.... anything less than a #9 would really dampen the season in an instant....

I hope the players and Cal are taking this nerve wracking crap a lot better than I am.

One thing I do think that is useful is 3 tournament practice games before the Big Dance for the freshmen to get their awe shucks moment out of the way now rather than later ( I am looking at you Booker...your 3 pointers determine a blowout or a pressure cooker)

I don't care about 40-0 or the Sec tourney- what counts is titles and the NCAA tourney is so hard to win that's what's counts!

This sounds like some people who think like U of L fans are posting on this thread. Why would a true Kentucky fan not care about extending the all-time victory total? Shame on any Kentucky fan who does not care. Why would anyone think so-called fans who are too cool to care about anything other than championships sophisticated? I don't get it.

Give me bandwagon fans and old blue-hair fans over U-of-L-sounding fans who care about a championship only any day.

if we lose in the SEC tournament it will be catastrophic. That could be the recipe for not just losing in the NCAA tournament but losing early in the tournament. Imagine all year going for undefeated and then having it taken away and still having to go play more.

Of course, run the table for 40 and 0 but if we have to lose then I would want it to be Friday in the SEC tourney...

We've gone this far... No way would I be happy abut losing in the SECT... But I fear this will be the time where we get bit...

The games are meaningless to us other than the fact we want to stay undefeated. Don't know how Cal is going to approach this weekend, but he has shown his disdain for the conference tournament and we get knocked off more than win them under his tenure.

I've come around to Cal's way of thinking on the SEC Tourney. This event needs UK more than UK needs it. In addition it does not prepare UK for the dance. It just doesn't. UK will never play 3 games in 3 days again. Might as well be AAU ball vs. teams they've already beaten at least once. No upside to speak of if you're Kentucky.

Another ignorant post by a bandwagon so called fan.
The tournament hasn't began and your already having Kentucky lose.
Just stop. Please stop this losing crap.

There were none. Everyone on planet Earth thought it would never happen again. If it happens it happens. The bitter voices now expect to be right eventually, even if that means a 40th game. That illness is on them.

What part of loosing teaches you how to win?

You do not achieve great things by setting your goals low.

There's no such thing as a good loss for this team. With that being said, if it has to happen I hope it comes sooner (in the SEC tourney) rather than later (in the NCAA tourney). I don't think a loss would totally derail the ultimate goal -- a national championship -- but I'd really love to see 40-0!

It's not bad but the notion that losing in the SEC championship game would take some weight off their shoulders is goofy as hell to me. Earlier in the season? Maybe. It ends the "unbeaten" talk early. But at that point? They HAVE to go unbeaten anyway, the same as everyone else. All it does is show everyone they are beatable, including the players, who right now have complete and total confidence that they will find a way to win.

This team is playing for more than just #9. They are playing for history. Not just an undefeated season but the greatest season that any team has ever achieved. 40-0. That is a record that may never be repeated.

While our 9th championship is the most important thing to me, I think this team wants to win them all.

I don't care if we win the SECT, I'd be fine with losing the first game in the tourney and then preparing for the NCAAs. But these players want to make history.

I will also vehemently disagree with anyone who says this season will not be a success without a title. What this team has done this year is already remarkable.

I agreed with the sentiment up until the last week or so. I kept telling myself going into that Georgia game that a loss would be fine but when we got down 9, I realized just how much it would suck to get that close to history and fall short. Once we reached mid 20s with no losses, I think a tipping point was reached where 40-0 was attainable and it was time to make it a goal.

You may be right that a loss may actually improve the chances of winning the title (or at the very least does not affect it) but I think a chance at sports immortality outweighs that slight improvement in odds.

At this point, you have to go for 40-0.

My fear still is that 40-0 adds another layer of pressure to the Big Dance.

The two best teams in UK history (arguably) lost in the SEC Title Game. With that said, those teams also already had 1 loss. None have ventured into the unbeaten territory.

The team that is in the finals against us.....assuming it's Arkansas Georgia or Ole Miss is not going to be desperate for a win to make the NCAA.

I don't think that's anything to worry about, because with the depth on this team, no one is going to beat them playing a third game in three days.
