Insane coincidence stories...

This happened to me yesterday and got me wondering about other crazy coincidences...

I was talking to a colleague about the show Hogan's Heroes and decided to Google if any actors from that show were still alive. Turns out two are... the black supporting actor that joined just for final season and the woman who played the Russian spy (Nita Talbot). I always thought Nita was a bit of a smokeshow back in the day so I looked into her a bit more, currently 94 and living in NYC. Later that night I am channel surfing around midnight (unable to sleep) and came across an old episode of Rockford Files. My pop loved that show so I clicked on it. Boom, first scene i see features Nita in a supporting role in the pilot episode about 4 years after last HH episode. How crazy is that.

I was (am) a fan of both of those shows.
MeTV used to show Rockford at noon every day about 10-15 years ago. I was "between jobs" for a brief time at the time, and that was my mid-day escape from my daily job search efforts. I haven't searched for it recently, but will at some point soon thanks to you posting about it.

The very first time my wife-to-be and I watched Jeopardy together the Final Jeopardy category was Historical Dates and before the answer was shown I said “When in doubt, say 1066.” Sure enough, the question was “What is 1066?”

All time best Tom Cruise performance too. I love PT Anderson, but wish he'd get back to his Boogie Nights/Magnolia era....
Yes, top notch Tom Cruise. John C Reilly too, wow. Jullianne Moore, Melora Hardin. A great film.

As for your wish, making these kind of films is crazy emotionally draining. He doesn’t have to make a classic every time out.

I don’t know if this is a coincidence or divine intervention. Or as a friend of mine would say, “Godcidence”.
In spring of 1997, my life wasn’t going anywhere. I was working in a liquor store, had just decided not to complete training for the utility company, had failed out of college and quit going to church for a few years. It was somewhat of a Costanzaesque existence.
The day I decided to quit the utility company training I prayed for the first time in a long while. While I was praying to God for help and a sign for what to do with my life, the phone rang. It was my brother calling from KY, telling me I should come down to work at the summer camp he had worked at the past couple of summers that was mainly staffed by volunteers. I blew him off and said I couldn’t do it because I needed money to pay back some college money that was owed. After that call, I couldn’t ignore the timing of it all but still didn’t commit to doing it. A couple of days later my brother called back saying that he had spoken to the camp director and she would be able to pay me to be a counselor that summer. I committed to do it.
I ended up doing that summer, then two full years as a volunteer for the Christian Appalachian Project, deciding to get back to college and get a social work degree (or 2 of them, I guess). The greatest coincidence of all? The camp director that found a way to get me paid had a younger sister who came down to volunteer for two years that fall. I married her the day after finishing my third summer as a camp counselor (her 2nd) in 1999 and we have been in Lexington for almost 26 years now, raising our 4 children.
Coincedence? “Godcidence”? Divine intervention? You can decide.

^^^^ This is why i love this board... what a great story

It is crazy how, when you look back, there are clear times when the input from a single person completely changes the course of your life. You may not know it at the time but it is clear as day in retrospect.

A few years ago I read a story about a guy I went to high school with (back in Boston). He was a year ahead of me and gave me a ride to school one day when I was a junior. This kid had perfect SATS and was on his way to MIT but was interested in my school choice. I had no idea but told him I was interested in studying aerospace engineering. He said, "Have you looked at Penn State?" COMPLETELY set my life into a new direction as I place attending Penn State as one of the greatest things to happen in my life. That guy is now President of Jet Blue.

Am I the only one who read that as the Christian Appleman Project?

Btw, I am forever thankful to Christian for canning a late 3-pt bucket in garbage time one game to hit the 80 pts needed for a reduced price Domino's pizza.

When I was dating my wife, her family invited me to join them on a vacation one year to Martha’s Vineyard. They were showing me around the island one day and pulled into a cemetery where John Belusi is buried. People frequently stopped by to leave letters, memorabilia, beer, etc at the grave stone. As we pulled up to the gravestone, the theme from Blues Brothers came on the radio. No one else noticed it at first until I said something.

Now that is a really cool coincidence... i had no idea he was buried on the vineyard

I’ll give you another one that really makes you wonder. When I was a kid, my neighbor had severe heart failure that required a transplant. He was fortunate enough to get a transplant in Pittsburgh and do pretty well initially. Pittsburgh was about 2 hrs from our house and when he was hospitalized for the transplant, my dad would take care of his and his wife’s pets while they were away. The main thing was that he had an office in his house where he had two large fish tanks with tropical fish. Well, shortly after returning home, he took a turn for the worse and had to go back to Pittsburgh for treatment. My dad resumed taking care of the fish. Unfortunately, his wife called one day to tell us that he had passed and asked my dad to continue to take care of the pets while she made arrangements and stayed with her son for a little while. On that day, the day my neighbor died, my dad went over to feed the fish, only to find that all of the fish had died also.

Ugh. BC High? Where you pay tens of thousands of dollars to get molested by the best?

Not sure this is "coincidence," but it's an interesting happenstance ...

First year of law school I had 2 roommates ... a fellow first year law student and a guy doing his post-doc work in the sciences. I had just had my final final exam of the year, so a couple buddies and I rode the T (subway) back to the apartment ... the plan? Stop at the liquor store just off the T stop, load up on booze, and start getting sloshed. As we're walking back to the apartment with cases of beer in hand, my fellow law school roommate (who acted gay, to us, but apparently it's just a California thing) gets off the next train with 3 girls (all fellow first year law students), who he is bringing back to the apartment to drink ... and he was trying to hook up with one of the girls. It was weird, in that we almost never got done with "school" at or around the same time ... he was in a different grouping that had a different schedule. They were all finishing up their first year of law school, too. My post-doc roommate came home a couple hours later and joined in with the drinking festivities. We all eventually made our way to the local bars and made a night of it. I ended up marrying one of the girls (whom I had never met before) my roommate had in tow. My post-doc roommate ended up marrying another one of the girls (whom he had never met before) my roommate had in tow . My fellow law school roommate struck out with the other girl.

You know what jackoff, if we ever cross pathes I'm knocking you the **** out. So keep your head on a swivel

Jack off? ****? Head? Enough about students' interactions with the authority figures at BC High. Why are you threatening to attack me in a cowardly manner, so I'd need to be on the "look out" for you, swiveling my head around, rather than just stepping up to me like a man? Let me know when you're in the Boston area. And calm all the way down.

Not a coincidence, but if I gave 5 guesses as to which 70's detective show had the best array of guest stars, most wouldn't guess this one. Also I would rate Barnaby Jones #2 and most wouldn't guess that one either.

This is 25 minutes long. Once you start watching though, (if you're of the right age) you won't stop it.

I get it, you didn't get accepted to bc high, or your parents were too poor to pay tuition.

I'll step right in front of you, announce myself, then knock you the f-ck out, how's that? You are a shiitty human being, everyone here knows that, no one likes you.

I'll be in Boston in two weeks for my aunt's funeral. Name the time and place.

Correct, I didn't get accepted to BC High, mainly because I didn't apply. I'm not a fan of paying to be molested. It would have been a long drive from PA, regardless. My parents were too poor to pay tuition, as well. I made it on my own ... I wasn't born with a silver spoon, only to smoke crack from that spoon and flush it all away, like a spoiled brat. My parents never had to be disappointed in me. Now I can pay my kids' way to whatever schools they want, but they want to stay public. As they say every time I bring up going to a secular NEPSAC ... "the private school kids are all alkies and druggies ... their parents just pay and use influence to keep it hidden." Like Dad, they're judgmental non-criminals.

I'd suggest we meet at an aviary - something so calming about all those birds, don't you think? You pick your favorite. Or maybe we can meet at your aunt's grave, so you can honor her, and the rest of your family, by ending up in jail, after you come to. They'd finally be so proud of you, don't you think? Let me know the address.

I don't accept tap outs when I'm not sparring - you go all the way night-night. And there will be plenty of video of me trying to reason with you like you're an actual human before you attack and I have to put you down, if needed. But hopefully you're not dumb enough to do something that stupid. Aren’t you too old to be a failed attempted bully?

Regardless, why the hell would you freak out about the well-earned reputation of BC High as a place where molestation repeatedly happened and was covered up? Then again, you blame Sandusky’s victims, too. It’s a very, very strange hill to die on. But if you want to defend proven molesters, I can’t stop you.

This reminds me of something I feel is a really odd coincidence.
my first name is Mark and last name is not common. Not at all.
In 1985, when I was 17 I dove in a swimming pool and broke my neck. Was paralyzed for awhile then regained my ability to walk.
moved to Michigan when I graduated from PSU.
in the early 2000s I decided to google my name as people did back then….
I see that there is another person with it same name living 20 minutes away from me.
same age.
And he had also broken his neck (same break too, C5), but he ended up paralyzed for life.
Really weird. I thought about meeting him, but decided against it.

About 15 years ago, I'm in our IT department with a young mechanical engineer that works for me.

He seems distracted, and I ask him what's up. He points to the corkboard above the IT guy's desk to a picture of a house taken from the water. He says "I want to know why Scott has a picture of my house."

Turns out, it was the house he grew up in in Maryland. The IT guy had rented it after his family had left. What are the odds of 2 guys that lived in the same house in Maryland working for the same company in Florida...
