The problem was not that Colburn was given a greyshirt offer, but that it came 2 days before signing day, depriving Colburn of the opportunity to find another spot elsewhere. Colburn is now telling all of his teammates that they should not trust coaches or programs and that they should take all 5 visits. Good advice indeed.

Keep in mind: Colburn took an official visit to Louisville less than a month before signing day. That was the time to make the greyshirt offer, and that they did not is the outrage here.

The kid had ONE offer from a P5 school--Louisville's--and he should have been suspicious of that. But that would have meant that he should have been more responsible, and he's supposed to be the victim in this tragedy. Right?

He could have attended Presbyterian or Charleston Southern on scholly from the moment he stepped in their door. For some reason, that doesn't stir up a lotta remorse in me.

Hopefully, he makes the right decision after he's had a week or so to think about it...

If he is not telling the truth, then UofL is mysteriously accepting a lot of flak that could be avoided by being forthcoming.

It's clear here that for some reason this subject is being scrutinized even though it's nothing new. Maybe it's because the greyshirt was offered so late? Maybe the Cards coaching staff should have known sooner with this recruit? However, there is more to this than meets the eye. There could be several things that none of us are privy to when it comes to this kids coach and Bobby Petrino. I wonder if Sabin or Miles did the exact same thing this coach would have came out in the media and said Alabama and LSU are no longer going to recruits my players?

All of this media BS including the pathetic creep Olbermann is more than likely just Petrino bashing. It could be for ratings and it could be a personal thing by the HS coach. Without his comments, none of this would be known in the media. They wouldn't care unless it's the bad apple Bobby Petrino. This kid had no other major school offers. It makes sense that he would be disappointed when Louisville asked him to greyshirt. But it's not a disaster. He could still be on a power conference roster a few months later. I bet left to himself, he would have accepted the greyshirt and would be a Cardinal.

I don't think Louisville is going to get hurt by any of this in future recruiting. The eleven players attending the NFL combine more than makes up for that. If a kid is good and wants to play for Louisville, he probably will. After all, the kind of players the Cards want to recruit, don't need a greyshirt.

One, it's going to be hearsay no matter if U of L contradicts the kid. Nothing can be proven unless there's an email, a letter, or some other documented correspondence. And if such documentation exists, why hasn't the kid published it already?

Secondly, there's not going to be any gain by U of L engaging in a media pi$$ing match with the kid. It's already pretty clear that the talking heads are gonna side with him. And as Jack just reminded us in his Coffee Break article, "never take on the guy with the microphone". U of L's doing the right thing standing silent and united.

Time for those of you on or near the fence to decide if you're still a U of L football fan--or not. If your answer depends on it, Petrino will hopefully be here a long time. It's time for all of us to move on...

I'm not sure why u are on this board so much about this topic, but if it's to make a point that UL did something uncommonly sinister, u are doing a piss poor job. U site a number of schools that have done this off the top of your head within 2 days of signing day, and u can add WVU to the list this year.

Most gray shirt offers come close to signing day BC schools are recruiting players up until they sign the loi, so they don't know if they're over the limit until then. It sucks for te kid, and I hate it happens, but it does...and all over the place...every year. Petrino was singled out bc of his past, plain and simple. What UL did, nor the timing, is singularly appalling. It's common.

Again, sucks for the kid, but it's not like national signing day is the last opportunity for a kid to sign with a school. Often times schools with extra scholarships are looking for a quality student athlete that is unsigned to fill out the their class. The kids can open ther recruitment back up and have a month or two to visit such schools.

At least be consistent and show us U are bitching up the same storm on all these other schools boards.
