Well, nickels certainly foreshadowed this a bit. Leaving, not a surprise. Dismissal, I’d say yes, surprise.

Edit: Willie says not tied to what half dismes typed a couple weeks back.

I wonder if "dismissal" really is allowing Arnold to leave while the portal is closed.

Arnold is suffering from depression and needs a balance of empathy and accountability. Slumlord Bob swung the pendulum all the way, said on GIA that Arnold needed a foot up his *** and he would tell him that.

I can't imagine being Arnold in that situation.

EJ, you have a better memory than me but didn’t Arnold move to Iowa and finish HS there. Seems strange that he would do all that just to get dismissed. Think you may be right that it is a portal thing

Yes, he transferred from Wyoming Seminary after committing to Iowa.

That move made sense. Arnold is from Georgia. If he's gonna live away from home anyway, may as well establish in-state residency and train at the RTC.

Moving then getting dismissed ... the entire Ferrari family moved to Stillwater. Not that they're comparable to Arnold's situation -- just that you never know.

During his HS recruitment, Arnold's other finalists were Missouri and VT.

Of them, VT makes a lot more sense. Much closer to his GA home. They have good options at 174 and 184, but he'd be an upgrade at either weight. Missouri is less compelling with a returning AA at 174 and Sinclair at 184.

Iowa State would make a lot of sense if there is mutual interest.

Never like him calling out CStarr and never showing up. That being said, seems the kid going thru some mental stuff and wish him well.
I didn’t like him calling out CS either, but I don’t think he personally backed out…IIRC he was held out of the dual by his coaches, to which he looked genuinely PO’d, and then lost on the other side of the brackets before getting to CS in the tournaments.

Competition anxiety is something many people deal with which can lead some to spiral. Gabe did say in a article that he couldn't handle things anymore and checked himself into the hospital on Dec 30. He also made the finals against Angelo at the Salute and that match never happened because Gabe was in the hospital. I hope Gabe can get things figured out and focus on other stuff and not put all his worth in winning

Big blow to a reeling Hawkeye program. Would like to see Iowa rebound. If they are strong... they can keep OKST from nipping at our heels. Anyways would love to see GA land at Pitt and see Pitt have 174 Luca augustine, 184 GA, 197 Stout, Hvy Dayton Pitzer thats formidable and with Finn Solomon and the Santillos in the lower weights. that would be a good fit!
