Welp. The Hawkeyes have a tall task to make it to the sweet sixteen. Looking over the stats it’s downright scary.

Florida plays fast and scores a lot! But their rebounding is ridiculous.

Iowa 27.1 per game
Florida 42.5 per game

Iowa 7.8 offensive rebounds per game
Florida 14.3 offensive rebounds per game

Watching highlights of Florida it reminds me of Fran-ball with a bunch of tall guys down low.

The only areas that Iowa is statistically better are 3PT FG %, free throw %, and turnovers.

It’s hard to see a path where Iowa wins this game.

Remember posting this about the Iowa vs Clemson game?

"Hawks will come out flat and get down by double foul or digits. They will fight and claw back, and even get a nice lead mid second half. Then the wheels will come off and hawks fall 77-73."
I do, glad I was wrong. Are you always 100% correct?

please share your wisdom on this game oh wise one.

Of course. But it was also hard to see a path where 17-16 Auburn could beat Florida, but they did--by nine--late in the season. And Vandy blew Florida away in the SEC tourney. High Point beat Wisconsin. Maybe Iowa can beat Florida.

I have to agree as much as I want this win as any Hawkeye this is a really tall order but that’s why they play the game so will wait and see

That’s why they play the game. Hawks playing loose with house money and start making some shots and you just never know.

I demand a victory and a Sweet 16! House money Hawks..play loose, have fun!

I demand that we win this game, and the next. That is all.

Holy ****. How awesome would Iowa vs. Nebraska in the sweet 16 be? That would be fun as hell.

Could be 3 B1G teams in the Houston regional.

I wonder if Houston fans have already gobbled up the tickets.

The Toyota Center (home of the Rockets) seats 18,055.

The 5 teams left in the Houston Regional:

#3 Illinois vs #2 Houston

#4 Nebraska vs #1 Florida/#9 IOWA

I fully expect another snail's pace game, where possessions are limited, where Florida potentially gets frustrated.

Iowa only had 8 turnovers vs Clemson, which is fantastic. Will need something similar today.

Iowa will have to shoot a lot better; against Clemson they shot 38% overall and 28% from three.

And if I were Florida, if Cam or Tate are about to make an easy bucket, foul them and put him on the FT line. Both looked uncomfortable vs Clemson and both were just 1-4 from the FT line.

Speaking of tall, Florida has 6 players between 6'9" and 7'9".

4 of the 6
are major contributors.

Only Micah Handlogten is a senior.

6'9" JR (Starter; 17 pts, 6.2 rebs, 47% FG)

6'11" JR (Starter; 14.9 pts, 7.5 rebs, 55% FG)

6'10" JR (Starter; 11.2 pts, 11.5 rebs, 59% FG)

7'1" SR (Averages 15 min off the bench; 4.2 pts, 6 rebs, 64% FG)

6'11" SO (has appeared in just 17 games; averages 3 minutes when he does)

7'9" FR (has appeared in just 11 games; averages 1.5 minutes when he does)

I hope you’re right and they can do it if they slow the pace and shoot really well

Classic playing with house money game. A chance for Ben to do something Iowa hasn't done since 1999... at worst he got Iowa into the tournament for the first time in a couple years and won a game. Not bad.
Last time Iowa beat a team from Power 5 conference in NCAA Tournament before beating Clemson?
1999 - Arkansas (to get to the Sweet 16)

Last time a Koch played in the NCAA Tournament for Iowa before this year?
1999 - J.R. Koch (sweet 16)

Seems the stars might be aligning for the Hawkeyes return to the Sweet 16?

Oh, and the only time a 1st year coach led an Iowa team to the NCAA Tournament until this season?
1987 - Dr. Tom Davis took Iowa to Elite 8

Need quite a bit to go right tonight .........

The Hawks' shooting percentages, across the board, have to be very high.

Must snag and secure all the rebounds the bigger Gators don't grab first.

And the officiating has to allow Iowa to try to play some physical defense. If they call it pretty tight, Iowa will be in major trouble all game long.

I normally get pretty animated during Iowa games. I pace the room, yell at the TV, curse. :) I’ve decided not to do that today. Winning this game for Iowa will be as unlikely as me knocking Mike Tyson out in his prime. 🥊Or now. 🥊🥊So, I’m going to relax and look forward to next year’s recruiting news. Go Hawks! Next year. 🍺🍺

I wouldn’t count on the officials helping the Hawks. I’m sure the ncaa doesn’t want to see the defending champ get bumped this early.

Hawks can win….they need to play their best game of the year, and force Florida to play below average.
