I am an avid griller/smoker on a BGE and live an hour away. We usually shop for our protein at Kingsley's and Fresh Market in Louisville. We are not too far from Lexington either, but never been to any butcher shops there, therefore I thought I would ask here. What's the consensus on best places to buy your meat/protein in KY?

Cooper Brothers. Marksbury. Critchfield.
All in the lexington area. Cooper Bros had some really high end meats. Never been to Marksbury. Critchfield is great for big eats like shoulders.

YW. Cooper has akaushi beef which is crazy savory. It's really good. They're really nice people. I use Critchfield for sausage pork, ribs and whole brisket. Also really nice.
Definitely hitting up Coopers for the Akaushi, thanks for the rec. Didnt know of a place to buy that.
To answer your question, Boones is pretty good..We live in Louisville and go there every so often to get some meat. Change of pace never hurts.
If your already going to Kingsley then there is no reason to go to Boone's. One of the biggest reasons people really like them is how affordable they are to carve up deer during hunting season. Of course they get a lot of other business due to the notariaty and how long they have been in business, also.

Yes, it is well worth it. Marksbury is the most expensive meat place in the area, Boones is the best, IMO

Nope. Wife bought some onion flavored Grippo's and some ham for cooking beans though. So it wasn't a wasted trip.

We sometimes go and get the bundles they advertise..They have really good ground beef and chuck. They offer four or five different items in a large bundle for a good price.
Fatted Calf in Bowling Green is pretty good. Had ribeyes from there to continue a Christmas tradition.

I hit it when I am in btown, but wouldn't drive an hour just to go to Boone's. They have a bag of pork medallions that make great porkchop sandwiches. I'll cook 8-10 on the grill at the same time, eat them for several days. Super cheap.
They also do a great job on deer. I get mine put into summer sausage after taking the steaks out. It's good stuff.
