Years ago when I was at UK, back before the earth cooled, we all used to go to Halls at the River outside of Winchester.

Is it still in business. Is the food any good. I used to love their beer cheese.

^ My grandmother doesn't drive. She used to love to go several times a year. She had someone take her several months ago (after not going for a few years) and she said that's her last trip because it wasn't good.

Hating on Hall's has seemed like the 'cool' thing to do for most people.

I love Beer Cheese, and have tried at least 100 varieties, and will pretty much pick up any 'new' one I see...

...and Hall's Hot is still my favorite. Dunno if it's b/c it was the one that got me hooked or what, but I love it.

Sometimes people hate for a reason. Hall's isn't near what it used to be.

But at least they kept the beer cheese right. On that we agree.

Hall's beer cheese that you buy in the store is not the beer cheese you get in teh restaurant. The store bought is simply junk, and the restaurant is good, but average compared to the best store bought brand.

Hall's is open and it's junk. Awful health inspection shut it down, they remodeled some stuff, and quickly opened back up. All that what was years after it had already went to pot. I dont' know the deal, but it's clear owenership/management doesn't care.

Anybody been to Madison Gardens lately? That place kind of went down the same path, but man their wings are delicious. Haven't been in forever. Last time I did (4ish years ago...) they upped prices AND downsized the wings. I was not a happy customer. I heard the brought back real wings, and added a pretty good pizza.

Beer cheese...

Their recent reviews aren't bad. I'd say it's worth it. It's not like people went for the food anyway. The scenery is most important. As long as they don't f up the food, or have cockroaches roaming around, then it's all gravy. Getchee a hot brown and profit. Nothing with that much cheese is bad.

Hall's has always been up/down. When they are up the place is very well worth the visit. When they are down, they are down. I haven't been over the last 6-8 months. Last time I went was last Summer. It was down. But they may be back up by now.

The liquor store over by Chinoe Pub sells the 'real' Hall's Beer Cheese, which is pretty much the best. I haven't seen the 'store' version of it in years. Maybe Kroger just doesn't carry it anymore.

I haven't seen it in Kroger for a long time either. All they have down here is Charlie's and Copper Kettle, which are both about $100 an ounce.

I saw some Hall's beer cheese at the Hamburg liquorbarn not long ago. Haven't had it, but it's there.

It's definitely out there, but not like it used to be. IT used to run the Beer Cheese game alongside Kentucky, but then Hall's slipped and other players came in the game. There are a lot of beer cheese options now compared to like 1999.

I prefer West Coast beer cheese. But that's just because I'm OG...that's just how i roll.

Hell, back in the early 90s when I was at EKU, I would sell plasma to get money to eat Ma Kellys meatloaf and mashed potatos. Not a thing matched in that place and it was nothing fancy but it was the best "homecooking" around. It was just like eating in my Grannys kitchen.

Another good spot was "Someplace to eat". It was just outside of Richmond on the road leading to Irvine. I think it burned down. They had a hamburger that was huge.

Tuesday night was 25 cent tacos at Pacos which was under "the Dog"

damn Im old....
