Is it too late to bring in a point guard for next year?

We need a small point guard with speed and power to ball handle and break the press. We have legit power at the forward and center position. What about transfers or frosh coming in? Any decent guys out there?

Who needs another guard?!?! We have Jordan Ash!!

I think this is the year he finally plays what he rightly deserves - two positions at once!!

A question I have is after an offseason of work on his handle, shot and distribution ability, will Gaines be less than, equal to, or better than Ash in traditional point guard responsibilities? Ok, make it lead guard.

I think Lathon may have enough support with guys who played guard like Taylor, Turner and perhaps Kopp. That's in addition to Law.

But if Gaines can take a bit of a leap with the above, it could buy him a lot more playing time this year. I like Ash, but he looks like he hit his ceiling on the point guard skill set.

This thread mentions 2 PG's who seem to be still available as grad transfers:

They are probably ready to help a mid-packish B1G team in need of a PG...the main question is whether either could qualify academically at NU.
The LSU guy got offers from GA Tech, Minny and A&M, out of HS....the Drexel guy is earning a degree at a reputable private university. There is hope they MIGHT be able to get in NU...but we don't really know their college grades.

Have you checked for any hot DII or DIII transfers? I really need to know.

On the skills spectrum, freshman Gaines was closer to a four than a one. Jitim Young had a great career with the same profile, of course.

I really hope Gaines expands his game and can be a traditional backcourt contributor as a sophomore. There are reasons for optimism, I think.
